Would it be better to try to sell cat condos from Amazon, or to provide instructions for making a simple one out of carboard boxes?

I would do both. Or maybe three things.

Post: How to Build a Simple Cat Condo
Post: What to Look for when buying a cat condo
Post: Building your own cat condo (with a link to an ebook or other resource with detailed instructions)

All three posts can link to each other, or you can use one of the related posts plugins.

Edit: Here's an ebook I found on Clickbank: http://www.bestcattreeplans.com

Thanks a lot, Cindy! I don't know how to link posts to each other. I'm starting to get some search engine traffic now. Monday I got 38. Is this good? I wish I were as clear headed as you are. I'll do as you suggest. Thanks.

Wait a minute! I put part 1 and part 2 links on my Dorda and Mitty posts. Is this what you mean?

Yes, Rick linking to one post from another like you did in those posts.

But remember to do keyword research to see what people are looking for when it comes to cat condos and stuff. Can definitely help you in the private forum with that.

And I would definitely promote both, actual cat condos from Amazon and you could write a report or have one written to sell on your site about how to make your own cat condo. See for us, hubby bought all the materials to make a cat condo and we started it but have no time to finish so we would probably buy a cat condo instead. You'll need to test is out like Adam recommends. You never know!

I would try both, but lean more towards the personal touch.

1. Articles on cats and why cat condos are a great idea.
Care and love of cats.
People who are obsessed by their cats (I resemble that remark with all my pets)
What to look for in a well constructed cat condo
Etc.

2. Locate forums filled with cat lovers.
3. Start a FaceBook group for cat lovers
4. Post ad on craigslist
5. Give away a tips sheet on something unique about cats. Require opt in. Market on the back end.

Rick, as others mentioned, I'd do both. I'd probably start with a DIY for it, and at the end say something like : if you don't have time to build your own, here are some great deals at Amazon.com

Then, link to amazon, and also include some picture links form Amazon.

Later, you can do reviews for those available on Amazon, and in those posts, say something to the effect: if you'd rather build your own, here are some plans, and then link to your post about DIY, and even an affiliate link to a cat condo plan site.

As others have already suggested, do both. Heck, put the link in your e-mail and forum signatures, and sell them that way too! :D
