I'm not Lynn so obviously I can't reply on the exact questions you had, but I'm not seeing any ads? Instead I think Lynn make sit profitable through the Elite section.
If you want to start your own forum you can look for main sponsors or monetize it through affiliate promotion of some kind. Or, have members pay to get access. How much you will earn depends on your niche, market, marketing strategy etc.
Blogs and forum aren't exactly the same thing, so they would need to be treated differently. What kinds of blogs or forum would you like to start? Do you have any plans at all for it? it's good if you have some kind of plan before you jump in.

Right - there is no standard answer for that as it depends on a number of factors. This is my 7th year running a discussion forum and I do it a wide variety of reasons. Not ad revenue, as you can see.
I do a book review each month on my blog at ClickNewz.com, and this month's book is Managing Online Forums by Patrick O'Keefe. One of my personal favorites! I'll be sure to come back to this thread and give you the link when the review is live.
Any other questions until then, just ask! :)

Hello,
OK I have been running forums like lynn for a pretty long time and getting advertisers is pretty easy. I use a blackhat tactic for getting advertisers.
Contact the company and try and sell them the space, if they decline I say that I am going to their competitor and offer them the space and they "normally" cut me a deal.
When you contact the advertiser I always send them a link to my stats page this normally makes them see how much targetted traffic we get and they tend to fall over themselves to advertise.
If you start a forum in the hope to make money I think you will be dissapointed, it takes a lot of time and effort. It took me 2 years to make my forum seem attractive to advertisers.
So in the mean time I slowly introduced adsense and then the ocassional banner ect.
Hope this hopes in some way
Danny

"Blackhat" tactic suggests that you're doing something illegal or underhanded. There's nothing blackhat about what you're doing. What you're doing is perfectly fine. In fact, it's an old sales technique that's been around for ages.

Have you posted that review yet? I'm interested in reading that myself as I manage my own (small) forum.
