Hey Lynn..I was inspired by your blog advertising special and kicked myself for not trying this on my own web site and/or blog which get 20-40K visitors/month.

How did you decide on the price/advert?
Is their a resource you used or was it a guesstimate?

I did some advertising on my blog- I set the prices by comparing other, similar traffic sites.

I've since discontinued the program in general; I only open up advertising opportunities to those who I "meet" personally. It became a headache to put up and take down the ads each month, change the text, deal with customer service issues, etc.

I think that if your WHOLE MODEL is advertising for that site, it's a good way to go, otherwise it can become a headache.

G'luck!

Ellen,

That's the reason I haven't done it before, and the reason I went with an annual sponsorship instead of weekly/monthly advertising. I also earn far more with affiliate marketing than I ever would with advertising. This is something I am testing in 2010, and hand selected the sponsors from all of the submissions. My goal is to have a close partnership with my sponsors, limited to only two for the entire year.

How did you decide on the price/advert?

I consulted with a friend who has over 10 years experience brokering ads for virtual real estate. I had the general outline and bullet points down and he helped me fine tune the offer and rates.

Thanks for your responses. I like the idea of an annual or 6 month sponsorship however I may have to choose an ad network if I have no takers. Currently using adsense on blog posts however it's not very profitable compared to my main web site which contains less content. I attribute this to blog architecture.

Sometimes its the niche. I've always done better with affiliate marketing than Adsense - or even advertising.

Could be..however adsense earnings are constant and 5x better on the static site than the blog. Only when I add a blog post do I earn from adsense...probably because new content pings the search engines. Maybe I need to test different advertising options.

When I've done advertising, I've set it up as a renewing subscription in paypal so the advertiser gets billed monthly. Now, I don't charge a whole lot for the advertising on the site that I'm referencing, but I've had some advertisers there since 2006 paying month after month and I haven't had to do a thing.

Just another option. I did the month to month and annual, and this worked best for me.
