Well Prostores is one of the best. Its simple enough for the people who aren't interested in changing the code that much and just want to sell.

Assuming that the ecommerce store is loaded with physical product, Would the answers to this question be different if the op is using her own product versus doing affiliate marketing with another merchants product?

As Jeanette said, it depends on what products you will be selling and by what means (affiliate, dropshipper, wholesale or your own info products).

There are many options for any of those, some involve having your own domain name and hosting and other involve a special system hosted on the system providers servers.

Just want to ask for your suggestion on the nice host that would best suit this purpose. Thanks in advance!

If you're asking for hosting recommendations - which is the way I read your question, I personally use and recommend Hostgator. Is that what you're asking?

If it is and you'd like other hosting options to choose from, feel free to check out the hosting reviews (http://reviews-by-customers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29)on my site.

I would go with hostgator, they are a really great hosting company.

I'm admittedly biased, but I couldn't agree more.

There are many ecommerce programs to choose from. Like others have mentioned, it does depend on what you are selling as much as how much money you have to spend and how much of a techie you are.

For example: if you wanted to sell info products, had a slim budget, and are ok with some techie stuff but not a complete pro, I would say installing something like cube cart from your fantastico control panel which is included in your host gator account, would be a good choice.

It is easy to set up and add the products for automatic downloads, you can easily add your own header by uploading and replacing the url in your css(by which you can also add affiliate banners and such in your sidebars), and you can set it up for free, then pay $70 or whatever it is for a license key which allows you to take off the cube cart info for more professionalism.

There is also OsCommerce, and Zencart included for free in hostgator which are fairly simple to set up and design. With a search online, you can also find free templates for these sites if you want a different layout.

I have used all of these listed, as well as, Magento,1shoppingcart, and all of the wordpress ecommerce plugins. It all depends on the look and feel you would like, if you want a built in affiliate program, or the option to have one,
how technical you are, and how much time and money you have to use.

I am sure you will find something that works well for you. If I can help you out anymore, just give me a PM. I may have a tutorial or 2 I wrote that can help.
