Hi James,

How did you promote/market this domain that redirected to your affiliate link?

Lynn, the following are the method i used

1. i got the hoplink from clickbank
2. bought domain name from GoDaddy
3. under my account go to domain forwarding
4. click the domain name
5. click the icon forwarding
6. under forwarding, i enable forwarding and place my hoplink
7. redirect to 301 moved permanently
8. under masking, enable masking
9. wrote title,description and keywords
10. click ok and waiting until the my domain forwarding status shows
the hoplink

By doing this i had made $400 within 2 months and now there is no sale.
This made me wonder what when wrong.

Hi James,

I understand how to create a redirect, but how did people find that domain so they could click on it and visit the merchant?

How did you promote it? Or are you saying you simply created it, told no one bout it, and somehow people found it or guessed it on their own?

jamessamy

I did not promote it anywhere cause at that point i do not know about twitter or writing articles.

I just forwarded using domain forwarding and i was really really surprise to cheque for doing that.... i was a lucky for 2 months :)

Wow, yeah you did get really lucky. I wonder if it got indexed temporarily or something. That's not usually the case. You're sure you didnt drop the link anywhere like on a forum profile?

From what i can recall till today i did not do any forum. I did domain forwarding by using youtube and learning from it. Before i know some friends online, i did not know anything about forum or even wordpress.

My first site online site done was in blogger.com and i took nearly 3 to 6 months just by using HELP. I learn the hard-way doing things.

Now i know you Lynn, i am learning more new ways. The webinar every tuesday shows light in my tunnel to success...Thank you :)

For future reference, domain forwarding is usually good for affiliate links - but you'll still need a website or blog to get search engine rankings and then use that to actually promote the domain (link).

You are right i have promote my links but i was lucky and the universe helped me.

Anyway, do you have any write-up on how to promote affiliate link to get traffic and make some income

James - how did anyone click on the link if you did not promote it? Was it a simple word or phrase that people could simply type into the address bar without seeing your link?

You could start a blogger blog or Squidoo lens and promote it there...

The following article isn't specifically about how to promote affiliate products, but it is about getting traffic and I think could help as well:

Now you really have me interested James. I have used domain fording but I don't get what you mean when you say, "I only used keywords in my domain forwarding"

Where do the keywords go?

If we are using the same terminology...let's give an example of what I mean. Suppose I buy two versions of a domain name - the dot biz and the dot com and I set up the dot biz domain name so that if some one types it in to the address bar they end up on the dot com.

That's is what I mean by domain forwarding.

So what do you mean?

If you made $400 once you can do it again - let's tweak this technique what ever it is eh?

:-)

Hi Alex

I placed the keywords, description and title at domain forwarding masking.
That's all i did and if anyone goes to my domain name it will direct them to
my hoplink

The sells kept coming for 2 months Alex
My site is http://www.energyforgreen.com/

You know, there's an old report called "The Embarassingly Simple Way I Grabbed the #1 Spot in Google, Yahoo, & AOL" from way back in 2002 that essentially talked about something similar to what you experienced, although I assumed it didn't work anymore - maybe it can still work on a short-term basis.

OK so the site making the sales is the clickbank sales page http://earth4energy.com and you forwarded your domain http://energyforgreen.com through your affiliate link to the sales page.

I just looked at the adwords keyword tool and your phrase "energy for greem" turns up 3,600 times per month.

And someone is promoting the phrase "energy for green" and using your trick to forward that domain!!!

it looks like you are piggy backing off their efforts James.

Take home lesson here is to use the encouragement of the $400 and build something of your own because your windfall is really a lucky strike!!

Do you have a hosting account James?

:-)

"Any suggestion i can do better or clues or links to learn how to make some money again :) "

Plenty!

I'm hardly ever at a loss for words James!

First I'd say that the way you phrase your question is going to stop you dead in your progress.

Let me ask you James, do you think that Lynn sits down every morning and asks herself, "How can I make some money today?"

Not likely!

Lynn like all Super affiliates has a business plan and she works her plan and most of that is niche web sites selling ordinary household and sporting goods. Selling real stuff to ordinary shoppers.

I'm not yet at Super affiliate level but I work my plan too. And this does not mean a kind of robotic following or aiming to for a fictional income goal, it means I have a business model and I'm following along a simple series of steps to implement it.

So for you my observation is that you are starting with affiliate marketing and you have a hosting account so you have to decide what niche to go into.

The "making money online market" is best avoided in the beginning because you are competing with some of the sharpest marketers on the planet.

Not good!

So find a niche and build a Wordpress blog - actually you install it but customising takes a while - how to do that? Well one of our elite members Traci Knoppe has a course on how to get going as a blogger

http://www.beginnertoblogger.com/

You can use a wordpress blog in the usual way to blog about what you are keen about but you can set it up as a sales pages or eCommerce store or even just a landing page.

or if you want a complete affiliate marketing plan that uses Blogs have a look at Brian Johnson's "Commission Ritual."

http://www.commissionritual.com/ or the direct link to the sales page is below

http://www.commissionritual.com/ritualblueprints.html

It is an odd name for a product but I bought it a week or so ago and it's a very good product. Brian is super successful and easy to understand and follow.

To sum up I'm saying that you need to think strategically now. You have made some money with a "trick" now it's time to build.

Good luck James

:-)

Hi Jamessamy

I JUST WENT THRO YOUR STEPS OF DOMAIN FORWARDING. COULD YOU EXPLAIN STEP NO 7 AND 9. I PRESUME IN PLACE OF HOPLINK ANY AFFILIATE LINK WILL WORK. AM I RIGHT??

Where did you register your domain?

If it's GoDaddy, log in and go to Manage Domains. Select the domain you want to use to forward to a merchant. On that page you'll see an option to enable forwarding, click that and tell it which link to forward to.

Hi Lynn

I understood the concept of forwarding and masking.
My basic question is
I have purchased a domain. It is my second domain. My 1st domain is the main one.
For the second domain do i follow the process off addon domain?
Do i change my server setting for the second domain if the host plan is different from the place where i purchased the second domain from?

Sona
