View Full Version : Getting indexed with squidoo

Hello, I'm new here and wondered if there are any squidoo users here. If so, has anybody had a lot of trouble getting lenses indexed lately? I have a series of lenses that I published before Christmas and built a bunch of backlinks for that are still not indexed, more than a month later. Meanwhile, I published a lens the other day (a non sales one - strictly informational) that was indexed within a couple of days. For the lenses that haven't yet been indexed - I have used the same strategy that I have before with no problems getting indexed - I'm not spamming or anything - just building lenses selling products. Anyone else experiencing this?

Laura :)

Hi Laura

Hmm... I haven't really had much problems getting lenses indexed lately, but sometimes it seems like it goes in cycles. Where did you build your links from?

I've noticed the same thing off and on with lenses getting indexed. It seems like it happens in spurts and the next thing I know they're all indexed at the same time. Linking in from ezinearticles.com or my own blog usually does the trick for indexing on lenses, but it does seem a little slow sometimes.

Hi Ladies - thanks for your reply. Jackie I've created backlinks with articles posted at ezinearticles, articlesbase, goarticles, blog posts at free blogs such as 3stepads, uniquearticledatabase, writersblockunblocked and more - at least 10 links to each of them. And thanks Jackie for referring me here - I'm here because of your blog. Retta, thanks for your feedback, maybe I just need to learn patience, I've never seen it take this long before so I was a little concerned, not to mention frustrated.

I'm glad your settling in. I told you this is a great little spot! It is a little odd that it's taking so long, but I am confident they will be indexed at some point. :) Have you used the comment form on my blog to link to those lenses (or one of them)? That might help!? and it wouldn't hurt to try.

It seems like it can take up to two weeks for me to get my lenses indexed. One thing that seems to speed it up is if I digg the lens right after it is published. G bots love digg and it will see your url very quickly.

Thank you Caneman - much appreciated - I'll try that but it's actually been about 6 weeks now that I've been waiting for this series of lenses to get indexed. I have done some bookmarking before but didn't see that it made that much of a difference but maybe digg is the ticket - I'll give it a try.

Hey Jackie, Yes I like it here. Thanks for your encouragement, I guess I hate waiting but I have been keeping busy with other things (ie. building new lenses) and then check on them once per week to see what's happening expecting something to be happening and it's not yet but I will have to keep the faith so to speak. No, haven't used any of them in the comment section on your blog but I'll give that a go too.

Cheers!

I just read this post over at Capt Squid's blog. He has a great point about using tag pages to get indexed. I personally have missed the boat on this one and will start testing it right away!

Here's the post: (http://www.captainsquid.com/t-a-g-s-spells-lens-indexing)

I have always used the tags to create new pages (using tags NO ONE else is using ~ he's suggesting using tags OTHER people are using as well so your lens is linked to a page with content so your content will be the new content for spiders to see.

I don't completely agree with him that you shouldn't use really specific tags on your lenses because I think it's good to have your specific keyword (especially if you're doing product lenses) as a link on the page.

I think it's probably really smart though to do both.

Very interesting indeed.

Thanks Jackie - I agree with you, although I'm not as experienced at IM as you, I would think that using your keywords related to your product would help as tags - not hurt and I do like his idea about using tags from other people's lenses. On that note - I haven't used the lensroll function much on lenses before and when I have, I've mostly just lensrolled to my own lenses. Well a few months back, I received an email from another lensmaster wanting to lensroll to one of my lenses on a related topic of hers - so long as I lensrolled back to her lens on the related topic. I said, "what the heck" and did and I've noticed that my traffic has tripled on that lens since then.

But, continuing on with my complaint above about my series of lenses still not being ranked, nothing has changed yet - I did digg them last week and so far that hasn't helped. So, I was talking to a squid friend of mine and she suggested that maybe there was some weird code buried in my lenses somewhere that google doesn't like. And, I remember I was having alot of problems setting up those bunch of lenses - I kept getting error messages but then when I would save the error messages would go away. So, now I am going through and deleting each module and rewritting the content - hoping that will help - we'll see - I'll keep you posted.

Take care, Laura

While I'm not a Squidoo expert, it does work as a backlink builder, but it seems to me on my usage that the quality of the link isn't huge. Squidoo has been google slapped before. While their current PR is 8, i don't think that drives down through other pages very much.

Social Book marking can be a good source of fast indexing, but I have had mixed results.

The thing is your lenses can pretty easily gain page rank themselves. I have lenses that are a PR 4. So that's makes them a pretty valuable linking source in my book. :)

One of my lenses was a PR 5 for a while - it recently got bumped to 'nothing' - not sure why - but, it was pr5 for a good while. And I have some others in there that I've had for years and they stay at around pr2 or pr3 pretty much all the time.

I completely adore using Squidoo! And it's a GREAT community, too!

Hi Laura,

I am also new in Squidoo, started doing 3 weeks ago after reading posts from Jackie Lee Christmas Blueprint. So far I have never encounter indexing issues. Maybe there might be something in your lens that is unable to index.

Try to ping your lens at pingomatic.com (http://pingomatic.com/)and see after one or two days. It should index if no there is no issue. Hope the best.

I never knew that you could ping your lens using pingomatic. That's excellent news. I've been having the same problem with one of my lenses so this was a good thread for me.

Hi Laura,

I've been using Squidoo for a while now and found that by linking to my lenses with EZArticles, my blog and pinging the lenses I can usually get them indexed.

It does seem to happen in spurts, though.
