Does anyone have a handy dandy list of the top 10 (or 20, or whatever) article databases you can submit articles to? I'm just getting started and know about EZine, and I know that there are other good ones, just have no idea what those other good ones are.

Thanks,
Kathleen

Awhile back I checked out quite a few article sites to submit to 10. I found it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. Some were closed to new submissions, some were limited to a niche range and one of the top ones wouldn't accept my email address for no reason I could determine.

I'll let you benefit from my hours of labor and post the list of the those that worked for me:

Ezine Articles (you probably knew about that one)
ArticleDashboard.com (Registered & Submitted)
Amazines.com (Registered & Submitted)
iSnare.com (Registered & Submitted)
ArticleTrader.com (Registered & Submitted)
ArticleCube.com (Registered & Submitted)
ArticleBiz.com (No Reg. Required)
Easy Articles (Registered & Submitted)
Articles Haven (No Reg. Required)
Worthy Articles (Registered & Submitted)
My Free Article Central (Registered & Submitted)
Media 13 (No Reg. Required)

Here are the 2 lists I found online from which I found those:

Thanks a lot everybody! I also have just started submitting articles but wasn't familiar with so many sites for submitting articles.

Many of the article submission sites won't allow Yahoo, GMail, and Hotmail email addresses. They don't allow them because spammers typically use them. You have to have your own email in order to signup.

Yes absolutely each site has to be checked out and you simply ask yourself is this a good neighborhood?

:-)

Mass submitting to dozens of sites is a technique that has had it's day in my view.

Should you submit a different article to each one, or the same to all?

I've only found a handful of article directories that hold some weight as far as backlinks go. However, it's hard to say any more what move Google is going to make next (or the other search engines we care much less about).

Same article or different ones? I don't think I want to answer that one right now. I would say your probably safe with the same article, but I don't know how serious Google is taking "duplicate content" these days (or if it every really did, for that matter).

I'd be interested in seeing some reports on how article marketing does or doesn't work as far as SEO goes.

You can submit the same article to as many sites as you want. It's called syndication.

Duplicate content on different sites is absolutely fine. People get this confused all the time. The "duplicate content" penalty that so many people worry about is for placing duplicate content on the same site.

That came about because before Google search engines pretty much ranked sites based on keyword density. Some people figured this out and would stuff the heck out of their page with the keywords they wanted. Some would paste the same sentence 1000 times. Some even had the keywords all over the site, but in a font color that matched the background. The visitors would never see it, but the search engine spiders would.

If you have ever visited a site that had what looks like a huge amount of white space at the bottom of the page, many times that is one of these sites.

Along came Google and changed all of that.

I have several sites on the first page of Google for certain targeted keywords. Article marketing is a big part of my SEO work. I almost always submit the same article to the article directories I use (about 400 of them). Never been penalized for it once.

I am curious about the" Duplicate Content". This has never really made since to me because when people copy your articles and use them (and that is the idea) that is not considered duplicate content.yes/no? I read somewhere that google sees duplicate content as the same content on the same website twice. I hope someone can clear this up.

WOW MikeF421, We posted at the same time and you knew what I needed answered. Thanks for clearing that up. I have been waiting for my articles to get approved at Ezinearticles and then adding them to other directories and so far everything is good and traffic is good.

People commonly submit the same article to different article sites because they are seeking backlinks to their site. As I understand it Google is pretty stern with duplicate content on the same site, but not so much when it is on a different server. However-- and this is significant-- Google doesn't like to list a lot of links to the same article copy. So don't expect good ranking from article submissions that are the same as your blog entry. This is probably another good reason to always place content on your own site before submitting it to an article site.

Wade,
I just want to understand this correctly.

always place content on your own site before submitting it to an article site.

So when you say to place content on your site first...Are you saying to post the article or your site first or just similar content or how should it be different?
Sorry to ask so many questions but I have been writing several articles and I just don't want to be doing it wrong.:
Thanks in advance
Gail

Well, Gail, I was referring to the reuse of the same text with the same words. If you go to the trouble of rewording an entire article, you're pretty much writing a new work. I just randomly picked an article at Article Dashboard and copied the first sentence. I pasted the entire sentence in to the Google box and did an exact search. 216 results came up. When you place an article on one of these sites, you're offering it up for duplication around the web. While I'm not certain what puts yours first, having it up long enough for Google's crawler to scan it while it's still unique probably helps.

Personally, I prefer to make submitted articles different and original, by using the same research material I used for the blog post. I sometimes just knock out 3-4 quick article submission pieces right after you finish a blog post and submit them to serve as backlinks to the post. They don't even have to be on the exact topic as the post, but of interest to someone reading it.

I am not aware of all of those but i sure know about ezine that they don't allow it to be submitted else where or else it would be treated as a duplicate content except for your own blog.

Ezine Articles doesn't want submissions that have been published at other article sites before them, but it's OK to submit the same article to a different article site after EZA has published it.
