Sonatanna what sofware are you using for your site. Wordpress? It would help if you added your link here too.

Are you trying to put this html code within content or on a sidebar?

This process can be pretty confusing for a newbie. For one thing, the affiliate code can come in different forms. It must be placed into the HTML code of the page. To do this from WordPress's entry editor, click the HTML tab above the buttons (next to the Visual tab, which is probably where you are). Look through this code for where your code needs to be placed, than paste it in.

To place just a text link on your page from an affiliate code can sometimes be a bit tricky. You need just the direct link code. Sometimes they give you this, but (such as with Amazon) it's surrounded by extra code that isn't really needed. If you can identify the URL withing the code, you can usually just copy it alone and use that.

While it's not necessarily to we a web programmer to use WP, it's a very good idea to have some familiarity with how HTML works. There are plenty of places on the web to use for reference. Here's a link to a free online course I recommend you find time to take: w3schools.com (http://www.w3schools.com/default.asp).

Sonatanna,
I'm still a tad confused but we'll get you through this.

OK, try only using the line in the middle that starts with <a href=

Is this going into a blog post that you are writing?

Just trying to get an idea as to where you want to put this link and what the goal is with it.

wade_watson
August 7th, 2009, 01:50 PM
Sure. If you paste that code into the WP editor under the HTML tab, it will put the word "Thyax" on the page with your affiliate link attached to it. Just look through the HTML version of your copy for the point where you want to insert it. Give it a try.

Hi Angienewton

I am trying to figure out myself as to where to put it myself. The affiliate site is Thyax.com. I want to down the image from the site but god knows how i go about this since the site does not provide for banners. If i had the banner/image /or KW do i highlight the KW/Image and put the full thing as my hyperlink/affiliate link. Am i right?

Just guide me as to the image and the HTML link.
I want to put the link in the image(which i am trying to download/copy and paste as well as to highlight the KW/anchor text.
Sorry for the language but a newbie and trying link things up for you to explain to me.
My purpose is to get the credit for the sale i get

You telling to use only the following am i right

<a href='http://www.progressivehealth.com/Affiliate/redir.asp?afid=2016&pid=2'>Thyax</a>

You're trying to skip to the advance class a bit quick, Sontanna. I suggest doings as I stated first, then click the Preview button and see if you've mastered placing a text link, first. Then, we can and image link...

Now, this can be done pretty easily in WordPress. But first, go to your affiliate source site where you can see the image you want. right-click it. In the drop-down, click Properties (assuming you use Windows). You'll now see a dialog with the location of the graphic. Highlight it, and click CTRL-C on your keyboard (or Edit-Copy at the top of your browser). Now back in WP, at your Post Editor, make sure the tab at top is on the Visual view. Click to place the cursor in your copy where you want the image. Click the little rectangle right beside "Upload/Insert". This brings up the box for image insertion. Click "From URL" tab, then copy in your image location in the box. At the bottom, you can paste in the URL for your affiliate link. This is only the part of your that code you showed us before that starts with "http:". Don't include any parentheses. Then close the box and your good.

Hi Wade Watson

I have yet to try out your strategy,Wade.
In the meanwhile i have got another problem
I want to to make my Home Page static. But when i go to the option "Setting, Reading"
i do not find that option. Is it because i have stored all my pages to Draft and not yet published them or else there is some other problem?

I think the site looks very good. Your images fit well and have their links as they should. The only thing I see that you might want to tweak would be the site contact links in the footer. They do not seem to go anywhere. It is always a good idea to set up pages for contact and so forth because these help the visitor feel more comfortable and search engines probably give brownie points for them, too. I'm not sure how your theme is designed, though, and it might take some code work to get the links there. There's no rush for that right now. I suggest you keep learning and take care of such details as you go.

I see you've got The All-in-One SEO plug, which is a good idea. If you haven't seen the thread elsewhere on essential WP plugins, check it out. I put my list there, too:
WordPress Plug-ins -- What do you use and favor??? (http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/members/showthread.php?t=220)

Keep showing it around, but I've seen far worse sites that were making people money. Good luck.

Hi Wade

I was waiting for some criticism from your side. But it has give me courage.
One more thing. How do i go about cloaking my affiliate links if the term i am using is right in WP

Sona

wade_watson
August 9th, 2009, 10:29 AM
I prefer to cloak links using the HTML method, which requires some coding and setting up of a subdomain or folder outside of the WordPress files. This might be a bit complicated for a beginner, but if you Google "HTML redirect", you'll find plenty of tutorials. There's an easier way to do a redirect that will cost a bit of money. I know Lynn redirects this way sometimes and it's probably the most efficient redirect. You go to your domain hosting service (like Godaddy), register a new domain, then set it up as forwarded domain. This only takes a few clicks and box-checks. You don't have to spend $10 registering an .com, either. Godaddy will let you register a .info domain for only $1.This is fine for a redirect. It's probably best to register a name that relates to your product to some degree. Member jamessamy recently explained how he set one up here: Is domain forwarding the rite way! (http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/members/showthread.php?t=348).
He accidentally got lucky and had some traffic after just registering the redirect. Most people have to promote it, though. Once you've registered the redirect domain, you just replace your affiliate link with this new domain link.

Hi Wade

Thanks alot

How do i copy a reource box which has a anchor text/lin from one place to another cause on using copy/paste command the anchor text/link does not appear on the target area

Sona

You may have to copy the link separately. Right click on the anchor text (in Windows) and click "Properties". This will show a dialog with the link. Highlight just the link, then click copy (or CTRL-C). You can now create a link from that URL. In WordPress, you just highlight the text to anchor, click the link button and paste it in.

Hi Elite Members

Can anyone help what do the numbers indcated by intitle, inurl and inanchor indicate and how how the command is to be used and whether higher the numbers indicated is better?

Sona

wade_watson
August 13th, 2009, 01:37 PM
I guess it's you and me again, Sona!

Intitle, inurl and inanchor are search filter terms. You type it in the Google blank, put a colon there, then type your term, like:

intitle:sona

Don't put a space after the colon.
Intitle will show you all the web pages with that word in the title. Inurl will tell you all the pages with the the word in the page url (usually after the domain name, so it tends to include the intitle entries as well). Inanchor shows every page where the term is used in anchor text.

How you use this info depends on what you are doing. But if you are trying to come up with a unique blog entry title, you might do an intitle search to see if anybody's ranking with it. I find is that sites of height authority (like Yahoo or Wikipedia) tend to dominate such searches, though. Still, I use such operators in doing keyphrase research to help get a perspective for comparison's sake.

A bit of Googling will give you lots more using these.

Hi Wades
If there is a wide difference arriving between the Key phrases in quotes and without quotes then what conclusion can we come to. For without quotes it exceeds 5,00,000 searches and within quotes it is just 11 with ppc ads appearing on the right what conclusion can we draw?

Hi Sona,

If i am not wrong you can get more info at worktracker keyword research and also at http://www.clicknewz.com/634/keyword-placement/

hope it will help you Sona

A search in quotes means that the searcher entered those exact words, with the words in that exact order. The broad search just means those words, in any order, appeared. And if you've ever looked at some of the latter results that Google brings you, you'll see that many only have as few as one of the words in a broad search. The may even go to what is called a "fuzzy" search, with word they find similar, but not exact. That is the reason for the big difference. Ranking in Google is not as hard as it might seem. I have a little freebie non-com'l site (Paper Hollywood) that ranks #1 of like 45 mil for that phrase and I never did any optimization at all.

I always like to remember something I heard Lynn and Ed Dale agreeing on once (yes, they do agree now and then!). That is that the number of results in search is actually of little importance. The only competition that matters are those 10 sites on the first page. To get on that page, your job is to analyze why they are there and find a way to beat them at it.

Hi Wade

One more help required from you. I had a look at you tube and there i saw a video of interest to my niche/blog. Can i use the same on my WP Blog and if so how do i go about using the same on one of my blogs??

Sonatanna

Well, this is an easy one. You're getting all this beginner's stuff out of the way so you can be the expert next time. ;)

Just bring up the video you want on the YouTube site. Now look at the sidebar on the right. You'll see a box with "Embed" to the left of it. Click inside that box and select all of the code in it. Copy it by clicking Edit>Copy in your browser or CTRL-C on your keyboard. Now, in the WordPress Admin interface, bring up the Add new Post (or Page) where you want the video. Click the HTML tab. Click where you want the video to go on your page. Now, either click Edit>Paste in your browser or CTRL-V. Save the draft. If you click Preview, you should see the video exactly as it will look on your page.

Sometimes, the video is too large for a space. An easy way to change it is to go back to the YouTube page and click inside the Embed box. You'll see some formatting options appear below it. At the bottom, you'll see you can click different frame sizes. Just copy the code again and use replace the code with that.

Good luck!

I've been traveling the last couple of weeks, so in and out - just caught up on this thread and appreciate all your great posts here!

Hi Elite Members

If i dont want to have content on my blog but i want the visitors directly onto the affiliate site from my domain how can i go about it and how do i proceed to place my affiliate link i.e where do i place my affiliate link and how do i go about it

Hi Sona,

It sounds like you're referring to a redirect. You can do this through your domain registrar - for example, I use GoDaddy. So you would log in where you registered your domain, and look for the forwarding option.

A forwarded domain will NOT rank in the search engines. So you'll have to promote it via paid ads or a lot of groundwork. That's the reason people use content, blogs & websites for affiliate promotions.

Hi Lynn

Thanks Lynn.
I went to Ezine and read a article and when i clicked on the link at the bottom it led me direct to to the affiliate site. Was wondering how that was possible and how the credit for sales if any can be given to the concerned person

Sona

wade_watson
August 26th, 2009, 11:04 AM
Ezine Articles will not allow authors to link directly to an affiliate product, Sona. If you register an domain name and set it as a forwarded domain, as Lynn was saying, it can take a visitor to the the product page without their ever knowing they were redirected. I suspect that is what you experienced yourself.

When you set up a forwarded domain, it gives you the option of either showing the merchant's site with your affiliate information in the URL or masking the affiliate information by showing the product site as if it were on your domain.
Tricky, huh?
