I am reading Dan Thies SEOFS 2009 pdf and

He suggests removing any unnecessary links from your “overhead” pages and to combine multiple pages (privacy, terms of use, disclaimers, contact information) into a single page, an add named anchors instead.

My question is when combining the contact information on the
privacy policy page, what do I do with the Contact.htm page?

Do I take it down or put a 301 redirect to avoid 404 error?

What is the best practice?

Thanks,

A 301 redirect would probably be the best. I know thats what google prefers
