I admit that I am new to blogging... just a month now, having just finished the 30DC... BUT does it drive anyone else NUTS when they go to a website that is using their keywords to find... NOTHING????
Just a spammy website/blog that offers nothing to their readers but ADS? I have a site that has affiliate ads but I also put good content on it too... am I nuts?
I guess maybe as I go along???
This evening [b/c I have the google blog search for my main keywords on RSS] I ran across a website that all they do is put a short one or two sentence paragraph to pull their readers in... and then say READ the rest of the post HERE:
Well the REST of the POST was MY ezine article! LOL!
I knew when I wrote it it would be used.. and I used it to gain backlinks... but are there really that many sites like that out there?
Does it drive you NUTS???

A bit annoying for sure as they don't add any real value to the internet. The best thing to do is ignore them and do not approve the trackbacks in your blog comments.
And to answer your question -- there are millions...

Welcome to the world of IM - there a re spam sites everywhere because people are looking to make a fast buck.
The good news is that Google needs to keep it's customer's happy and therefore it prefers to rank quality sites (like ours) over the spammy sites.
Denise makes a good point - it's great that they are giving you free backlinks but don't approve the trackbacks or you're just returning the favour!

Yes Maggie, it drives me nuts too. These are technically spam sites and they may get some recognition now but they will eventually drop from favor with the search engines.
Just like the sites that steal your articles and content, they're not real businesses, these are just sites trying to make a fast buck. They'll be found out sooner or later :-)

No, it doesn't drive me nuts. That would be to give those sites too much undeserved credit :)
Those sites will probably either close down because of lack of income, or get banned for having ads on them without providing content.

Maggie do you use wordpress? (self hosted one)
There are some mods that help with the spam comments but like mentioned before you will have to manually delete them. For me, i just make all comments moderated by me and hardley ever approve a comment not unless it's a quality reply. Most people or spammers don't read your blog posts and just reply with a few short words to get a backlink. Make sure you ban those IP and email address since those might be paid blog commenters. Hurt em in the pockets is all we can do and ban them from our blogs.
If you are self hosted wordpress blog, i could did up some plugins from the wordpress site that you can look at. Nothing will help out the spam 100% but some plugins help a little.

I do use WPDirect self hosted. I have Akismet loaded. I am not familiar yet with all the plugins available... I am adding them as the need arises or I stumble across a forum post that recommends certain ones.
Thanks for your support and help, it is appreciated.

Just grin and bear it...
if your site has great content then you will rank higher in the long run
