Greeting everyone! I'm new here and am excited about this forum. I've tons of questions in my mind that I need help with my online business.
I understand the private brainstorming forum will be a good place to start. However, I'm not sure how good it will be, I read somewhere there is a free trial in the first month. Is this true?
I tried to sign up but didn't see the trial option. Did I miss out something? Could someone pls advise?
Thanks a million.
Welcome to the forum.
As for the elite mastermind forum, there is no free trial option for that.

Aloha Lynn (and Angie),
Thank-you Lynn for directing me to this forum...I'm looking forward to reading and posting here as I have much to learn. One lesson I learned a while back on the internet is,"if you don't know something, don't be afraid to ask." I would have saved myself alot of time by joining an appropriate forum and learned by asking and sharing.
Lynn, I apologize for being a little confusing in my Twitter DM...the question I was asking was....where can I find some information on using a blog for primarily CPA offers??
The reason I'm asking is that I recently started promoting some CPA offers and was told by a few CPA publishers that running banners and text ads on blogs was an effective way to cheaply advertise and that if I had good traffic to my blog, then I would generate some leads.
This is pretty much the opposite way I originally learned to blog...I rarely advertised and when I did, I hyper-linked the ad URLs to the word "HERE" and so on...as I know most blog readers do not want to come to a blog to read ads...
I love writing as it's very therapeutic for me and I have a good understanding of internet marketing...is there an acceptable way to combine content with multiple banners and such?
Looking forward to some feedback and also getting to know all of the active forum members...thanks again, Lynn Terry!
Mahalo Nui Loa,
John

I switched from PHPBB to vBulletin a couple of years ago, specifically for features I needed. I wanted to run my Private Brainstorming Group more automated and vBulletin made that simple. As for the more recent change, the domain switch, that is part of a rebranding project I am working on - phasing out my original site at selfstartersweeklytips.com which has been online for around a decade.

My first suggestion would be to use Wordpress instead of the Yahoo sitebuilder. You can find a lot of great info on Lynn's Internet marketing blog (http://www.clicknewz.com).

Hi HiltonHeadLarry, welcome the forum, enjoyed your opening post.
Right now I'm involved in promoting a new Hilton Head Island real estate business. In addition to building their website using Yahoo Sitebuilder (see I really am new to this), I am trying to learn how to best promote their website and business (through Internet Marketing).
Ok, here's some general food for thought, just something to ponder.
As you said, you're new and have much to learn. It's real real easy to get swamped with all the things one can learn about this business, get distracted, lose focus etc.
Thus, you might consider asking yourself what role you want to specialize in. Are you the writer? The marketer? The closer? The technician?
This market is dominated by what I call the "lone wolf" webmaster paradigm. That is, lots of people trying to do everything, all by themselves. Another name for this is "jack of all trades, master of none".
Imagine you were just getting in to real estate, and you were trying to learn carpentry, plumbing, architecture, community planning, land development, home sales, wallpaper installation etc etc. It'd be nuts, right?
If your situation will allow you to pick one job, focus on that, and out source the other jobs to other people, you can sweep huge piles of things that need learning off the table in one fell swoop, right from the start.
As just one example, the site building job could be handed over to a minimum wage college student, who already knows all about web tech stuff. With your experience, I'm guessing your time is worth much more than minimum wage, so it kinda doesn't make sense for you to be learning that job.
The most important job could be building the audience to your client's site. Unless you have considerable traffic, nothing else much matters.
If you can liberate yourself from everything else, you could possibly focus on that key task full time, and really make some progress.
Pretend you are starting a print magazine, and you're the publisher. As the publisher, your job isn't to do everything, but to find quality people to do everything, so you are free to think big, and chart the course ahead.
Thinking about your enterprise like this from the start could possibly be the best thing to learn right now.
Again, just food for thought, not a prescription for everybody on the net.
Looking forward to learning more about you and your project.
I don't want anything I say to be considered inappropriate.
Oh darn! Maybe we need to pass some beers around the forum? Lynn, what's on tap??
Phil Tanny
April 12th, 2011, 07:46 AM
Hi again Larry,
Ok, I must type carefully here.
First, let me state unequivocally the obvious fact that you know your situation better than anyone else.
Second, everything I'm about to say is about webmastering in general, not about you specifically. I'm just using your comments as an example, as they are very typical of very many other webmasters.
Ok?
Problem with me is that I always try to do too much ... and that's because I get a kick out of learning new stuff.
Your description of yourself fits me perfectly as well, and I'd guess many other webmasters.
In my case, I'm a third generation publishing technology nerd, and so I have an undeniable unstoppable compulsive genetic level addictive interest in web technology.
It's great to know who we are, and to be able to be who we are, and there's wisdom in that.
But, here's the price tag. Technology is not the smart place to be in this business, marketing is.
An unquenchable curiosity is a good thing in principle, but in practice, in an info saturated environment like the net, compulsive curiosity can be a major big time distraction from the focus needed to achieve business goals.
I say this not as an accusation, but as a confession, and a warning. If you're here to do business, be careful about what you invest your time and energy in. If you're here to have fun, that's another matter altogether, and the only rule is fun, fun, fun.
And you're right, what I should spending most of my time (for her) is to drive prospects to her website.
Well, prospects are who have the money, and the more of them the better of course.
(I did build her business website at www.your5starrealty.com - and had too much fun doing it), and now I'm thinking about revamping it and making it look better.
Ok, again I wish to emphasize it's not my role to tell you what to do. Instead, I'm trying to spring off from your quote to make a general statement about the whole field.
A key skill each of us can develop is clarity.
What is our real goal? Building a business, or being a creative artist? I'm not suggesting one is right or the other wrong, I'm suggesting not being clear within ourselves about our priorities is a mistake.
Building a business and being a creative artist are in conflict, in that there are only so many hours in the day. The exception of course would be if we wish to go in to business as creative artists.
Here's an image that may be helpful to some. As we begin any project, think of an imaginary time clock that starts ticking down.
In the beginning, we have lots of enthusiasm, but this is a perishable asset. Sooner or later the enthusiasm will decline in a natural normal manner. At the moment in time when that happens, our site will be making money, or it won't. If our site isn't making money when that moment comes, it can be very very easy to give up.
This is the most common webmaster experience there is. Folks jump in to a project with enthusiasm, squander that enthusiasm on things that don't matter, not reach their goals in time, and then give up.
I've done it a hundred times myself. Thus, this subject interests me a good bit, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's relevant or useful to you, or any other individual reader.
Let's just call it a challenge to be aware of, if we're not already.
Lynn Terry

Hi everyone!
New member, old subscriber ... I seem to be in good company. I look forward to getting to know that company and being of help when I can, too. First, I think I need to learn a thing or 2. I may become an Elite Member as I feel I really need an organized support structure. This is the entrepreneurial year for me. I'm looking to finally get my business going and have it supporting me before the end of the year. I'm starting with 2 sites -- one will be strictly a service site, kind of the beginning bread and butter, and the other will be an info-authority site where I plan to be ultra-helpful and with varied monetization. There'll be other sites, too, smaller ones.
Meanwhile ... I'm confused about the difference between an avatar and a profile pic. I'm used to putting up my profile pic but I seem unable to here. I never had its URL, as is required here; I normally just downloaded my picture by hitting "browse." Any advice? Thank you all.
Lynn Terry
January 19th, 2012, 10:41 AM
Hi expatana,
Your profile pic will show up on your user profile. Your avatar will show up with your posts - like mine does here. Are you not able to upload an avatar? If not, you can upload it to your server and then link to the file location. Hope that helps. ;-)
I look forward to brainstorming with you!

Thanks for the welcome, Lynn, and the advice re my picture. I assumed that the picture becomes the avatar in the forum pages, then? Otherwise, I have no idea what an avatar is. In any case, it looks like the pic I usually use is too big. How do I make it smaller?

Hey Everyone: I think I actually joined this Forum many months ago, but never got back to start sharing or posting and forgot all about it.
Anyway, I'm back again now and hope to become active here. I won't bore you with my background, you can read most of that in my bio.
In a nutshell, I've been online 'struggling' since 2004 to make my first dollar. I've tried so many programs, but just not doing things correctly. My kids have told me a number of times now to 'give up'. But, I can't.
I already do have 2 businesses, but they really aren't growing. I'm a Music Teacher of over 17 yrs (I teach 8 instruments); primarily Drums, Piano & Guitar, but can 'teach' anything with strings. I'm also a Family Entertainer of 27 years. Both are only part time, really just serious hobbies.
But, I have a passion to learn Internet Marketing and enjoying Financial Freedom. So, I am here for HELP, but also once I 'get rolling', I want to HELP, ENCOURAGE & MOTIVATE others....GIVE BACK!
I really look forward to making many new friends on here, from around the world.
Wishing You All Massive Success..... RJ

Hi everyone, I am really excited to join the community here! I was just thinking to myself over the weekend that what I need is some coaching in order to give my affiliate marketing business a boost and then came Lynn's email this morning with her amazing anniversary offer!!
I started my internet marketing business May 2010 and I have 4 niche sites that are making pennies a day. I become frustrated with my sites and lack of progress a year ago and basically stopped working on them and concentrated on starting my virtual assistant business (as a product launch support specialist).
Anyways, I am now eager to pick up where I left off and really make a go of my sites and see where I can take them. I just need some concrete advice and direction!
Looking forward to getting to know others in this community and I am thrilled to have now have access to you Lynn :)

Hi everyone,
I've been following Lynn on and off for a while now and love your friendly style and the fact that you personally answer questions on your facebook page. I loved a tip you gave in an interview when you said not to buy anything that you don't need immediately. I related to that as it's very tempting to keep buying new software and courses and domain names that you will use "one day". Great advice!
I first started online marketing in the late 1990s but let it go for a while. I'm getting back into it now and I'm hoping this forum will be a help. I've been wary of joining groups as it's so easy to get distracted on the net with "learning" and discussion instead of taking action. I want to stay focused and action oriented.
Looking forward to seeing what this group is about and to connecting with other online marketers.

3) Get hosting account

Hi Lynn
I just joined yesterday, and am looking forward to getting not only any tips I might pick up, but also would like to get involved as much as I can. I've been taking coaching for about a year and a half now, and have a web site all set up and trying to learn more about Wordpress so as to be the go to person when it comes to Wordpress. I think I know quite a bit now, but I do know that there is still a lot that I don't know. I've yet to build a list, I now have two people on my list but they are not responsive so I guess I could say that I have no list. I do however get a lot of comments on my site, but about every time I e-mail someone, the e-mail comes back undeliverable. That's about where I am now.
Lynn Terry
August 11th, 2013, 11:45 AM
Hi Larry,
Welcome! When you say 'every time you email someone' do you mean when replying by email to their blog comments? If so, you don't want to do that - it's a notification email, don't reply to it. Reply to their comment ON your blog instead. Unless I misunderstood you? What is your link?
Larry
August 12th, 2013, 11:42 PM
Hi Lynn
Yes, you were right, I was referring to the e-mail to the blog comments. I also reply to the comments. My site is larrysproducts.com.
angienewton
August 13th, 2013, 04:22 PM
Welcome Larry.
Definitely can help with some suggestions on your blog. The first thing I would do is to remove all the spam comments. You have a ton when I scroll down on the 1st page that you are replying to. Almost all are spam so I would just remove them altogether.
For example, ones that say excellent pieces, very nice post with a link, etc. That type of thing can really hurt your blog when it comes to Google.
I would personally recommend that you choose a niche you're familiar with. The Internet Marketing niche is going to be hard to promote if you haven't personally had success with it.
There are some script errors on your theme too.
What type of things interest you? Who is your coach?
Larry
August 14th, 2013, 01:17 AM
Hi Angie,
I thought most of those were genuine comments. My coach who I've been with for over two years, is Sean Mize. He believes that there is a lot of room for individuals to get into IM. I actually have no other interest that I could use for a niche. I do like working with Wordpress, and I'm trying to become proficient in it. I am signed up for a Wordcamp on Saturday in Vancouver BC, hopefully I can still make it. I would like to teach others how to write blogs, articles etc., and how to set up and use Wordpress.
Larry
August 14th, 2013, 01:19 AM
Hi again,
What do you mean by script errors on my theme and how or what do I do with that?
angienewton
August 14th, 2013, 10:32 AM
No they aren't genuine comments, sorry to say. I clean spam for a living (yes I love it ha) so just wanted to let you know. Went through all of them and would highly recommend you delete them all. Most are linking to sites you do not want to be associated with in the eyes of Google.
On the main page of your blog, there is a script error under your image before the comments.
Lynn Terry
August 18th, 2013, 08:56 PM
When you reply to comments, you should reply ON your blog - not by email.
And sure, there is plenty of room to get into "Internet Marketing" and/or to teach people how to use WordPress, but both are something you really want to have personal experience with yourself first.
Larry
August 25th, 2013, 03:18 AM
Hi Lynn
Sorry it took me awhile to get back to you, I was without internet for a few days. Yes, I understand that I must have some experience. That is one reason that I've been doing coaching for two years without much luck. Also, I have signed up with Lynda.com to get more knowledge and hands on with Wordpress, and to learn more about blogging and setting up sites. Between going to the Wordcamp and taking these courses, I see that there is a lot for me to learn.

True, I had a blog a couple years ago on playing craps. After a year I had forgot to renew my URL and it was sold. Hostgator still has all the content, and I'm still paying for it, but I don't have a site for that right now. Along with taking the Lynda. com courses, I'm trying to revamp my site. The only thing is, I can't remember how I changed the Theme to get it how it is now. I think, if I can, I'll put it back the way the way it was when I downloaded it. Also, I thought I was going to be different and instead of posting my content I put everything on a page. Then when I wanted to start separating and categorizing things, I couldn't.
Lynn Terry
August 28th, 2013, 04:03 PM
Since the site has been offline for so long, grab a new domain name and get it back live - and now is a good time to reorganize all the content (since it will have to be reindexed anyway). :)

Nice to meet you. How cool to work at those resorts. Two places I want to travel, St. Lucia and Barbados. I also worked at a hotel, as a front desk supervisor for Marriott. In fact, that is how I met my husband. Fun story.

Hi-
I'm Kathy and just became an Elite member today. I am really excited about my internet business, but anxious at the same time. I need to become active in the social media circles and for me that is easier said then done. I am currently going through Lynn's Social Marketing Results course to start me down the social media path. Would love to hear from others how social media helped their business to grow. Thanks in advance.

Welcome Belinda! Great to have you here.
And welcome to the elite group, Kathy! Lynn's Social Marketing Results course is awesome. As for social media helping my business grow, it puts you in front of the right people that is for sure. I have had so many opportunities through companies/brands finding me on places like Twitter. Plus it's fun connecting with so many different people around the world!

Hi
My name is Belinda and I own a small home-based business, which involves direct selling. I have, however been building my online business for some time now and have been looking for reputable forums on internet marketing. I eventually came across this website......quite by chance too. But they say, "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear" and boy do, I believe in that saying!! It's happened so often throughout my life. So, here I am and having been browsing around on this forum, can only say that I am mighty pleased to have found my way here. I've signed up for the newsletter and look forward to connecting with you all.
Welcome Belinda :)
Is your online business different from your direct selling biz? I look forward to hearing more. Feel free to start a new thread here in the forum if you have any questions or want feedback!

Hi Guys. Excited to be a part of this community.
My main reason to join this is IM partners who can help me in promoting my web based products.
We have been into Web design/development for more than 6 years.
Any pointers to start approaching IM guys would be really helpful :)
Thank You !!

Hello all. My name is Tammy Marshall and I'm excited that I found this forum via smartpassiveincome.com. It was listed as one of 5 marketing forum and it sang the praises of Click Newz. I am looking forward to connect with others from the industry so I can fulfill the need to have in depth chats about marketing.
My first marketing job was at 18 and my grandmother suggested it to me as a way of transition from a fast food job. At the time I had my heart set on becoming a psychologist and I left marketing only to return when I felt burned out by health care. My interest to marketing was sparked when I worked on building my husbands business. Though I had many roles the only one that I never grew tired of was the marketing role. I admit that I am a self taught marketer, but that means to me an inexpensive education that leaves me the room to excel in ways that interest me.
I've decided to pair my love of writing with my love of marketing and now I have a blog that covers topics related to self marketing. While I still have a 9 to 5 job, I plan to blog full-time. However I love my job so I am taking my time planning my blog so that it will be the success envision.
I want to thank everyone who took the time to read this and I'm looking forward to learning more about the members here.:D

Welcome Tammy! Great to have you here.
Can I assume you mean the control panel here on the forum? The UserCP? If so, just click on settings at the top right of the forum. That should get you there to edit your info should you need to.
By the way, I don't know where my control panel is located... Please help.

Hi Anusiya.Raj - Welcome :)
I started out with a web development company (service based business) and would be happy to help you reach whatever your goals are with your own. Whether that be growing your business / getting more clients, increasing your revenue, adding in passive income streams, etc.
It's a great community where you can get feedback, brainstorm ideas, hands-on marketing help, and of course network with other professionals in the industry. :)

You can post a new thread in the Main Internet Marketing Forum (http://www.clicknewz.com/members/forumdisplay.php?2-Main-Internet-Marketing-Forum) using the orange button at the top left of that page to post.
Go into Settings (http://www.clicknewz.com/members/usercp.php) to add both a Profile Picture and an Avatar. The Avatar is what will show up here in the forum area with your posts.
