Avatar/Profile Pic

Within the User CP you'll find options to edit your profile, signature, settings and options. Go through the CP (control panel) and customize your account.

There are 2 options for your images: an avatar, and a profile picture. The profile pic will only display on your profile page. Also add an avatar, which will show on each post within the forum.

Public Forums

Once you get your profile set up, feel free to begin using the forums. You'll find a Special Offers section, a Job Board, and the Main Internet Marketing Forum (that's where you are now). Post your question, share a resource or open a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you!

Private Forum

The private forums are reserved for Elite Members (http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/elite-members.htm), and include: Private Brainstorming Forum, Social Media Partners, Free Downloads, and more. You may upgrade to Elite Member (http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/members/payments.php) through your User CP.

Note: Pricing & Availability is subject to change. The option to upgrade is not always available.

Hello all. After a long absence I am back again. I wish I could say I am doing great in the IM world, but alas I am not. Lots of reasons, none that are worth explaining. I have not been totally static but my efforts of late have been few and far between.

Anyway I finally found the User CP. I kept clicking on my user name which took me to my profile but did not see options for avatars.

I knew I was missing something starring right at me and I was right. that cute little link in the upper left corner that says User CP.

The forum looks good. Nice color scheme and crisp and sharp, but that may be my brand new laptop screen. Finally took the Vista plunge.

I know you mentioned a feedback section Lynn but I did not see it at first glance. The only thing I will mention is that there is an option to change themes at the bottom of the page. If you select default all your navigation that you so nicely arranged at the top of the sswt disappears. You may want to take that option away since you have the forum integrated into your website. If I find the feed back section I'll post it there too.

Hi Lynn Traci and the rest of the gang! I’ve been so busy trying to keep up with my blog, StayBoosted.com and other stuff that every time I try to participate here on the forum I get a “Help Me” tweet or something of the sort, and so by the time I finally get to finish my forum post and hit the “Submit” button, I’ve already been auto-logged off and then I lose the post that took me two hours to write! (ok, wait, time to inhale!)

This is not a complaint btw. I just went GaGa over finally getting in to Lynn’s Elite forum, and but it may SEEM to Lynn that I suddenly lost interest. No way! Quite the opposite! So what I’m doing Right this second (well, obviously I wrote this earlier write- I mean right?), is I’m using “the Bean” for the Mac, writing my post, and then Copy-n-Paste into the Forum. So that brings me to my Question:

How do you guys keep up!? I’m not even famous yet (giggle) and I’m pulling my hair out trying to keep up with it all. I’m SURE your answers will be, at least in part, outsourcing of some type. Ok, I may post this in more than one spot (like, only 2 or 3) coz I want to make sure you guys (all it may concern), understand that I really am excited to be here! Hey, I know I’m a pretty darn advanced newbie, but I’m still a newbie.

Hi Phil - welcome! :)

OK - first thoughts when I look at your site:

1. I see a lot of ads all over the place. Why? You should be promoting YOU and your services, not the services of all these other places.

2. You have too much 'stuff' above the fold, meaning I have to scroll down to get to your read content to read to learn more about your company and what you do.

3. Left align the paragraphs of text. It reads easier. Center aligned text is very "90's". Make the page easier to read and format the text on the page to read much like a letter. It's fine to have some bold/red headlines that are centered, but everything else - left align.

4. Add some paragraph breaks. Something else to add to the block of text, make logical paragraph breaks to make the reading in easier chunks/blocks of text.

5. Navigation: you need better site navigation. I see some at the bottom, which is good to have; but you also need very clearly defined navigation also at the top and/or side of the page as well. Make it very easy for folks to find their way around your site and make the navigation consistent on every page of your site so they can get from page A to page B and back again. ;)

6. Keywords: good news, when I search 'tampa bay computer repair specialist' you're #1 in Google! What you need to now do, is determine how many are searching for that particular phrase. If that phrase is getting a good number of searches, but you're not getting any business from it - could be because of some of the reasons I mentioned above. Also do more keyword research to find other related long-tail keywords and optimize other pages of your site for those related long-tail keyword phrases to bring in traffic that way.

Those are the biggest things I see for now. The design itself could use some work - but if you work on the things above, that would be a big improvement.

When I visit the board in the morning I see all the new and newly replied threads in bold. As soon as I read one of those it marks the enitre board read and I can't tell what's new anymore. It's driving me crazy. I cleaned out my cookies and cache and all that in case it was just me, but it's still happening. Does it just not like me?

I've got some sites up that I'm trying to promote, but one especially... I've had it for a while and I had it up to $400 a month. I'm now promoting a new affiliate product, so my sales went down, and I've also been gone the entire summer, so I had no time to work on it. You can check it out at:

You really need the self-hosted .ORG version with your own domain & hosting, if you are trying to do a business. Blogger is fine, if you want a personal blog; but if you're going to run a business - you need to have your own hosted blog. Your own domain is branding YOU, not Blogger.

Traci, what I didn't like was that I kept getting so much spam and had no idea how to turn it off. I have watched your vid on the subject which was helpful, but still have not figured out how to get my API key, or whatever it's called.

Do I have org or com? Good question! How do I tell? I downloaded from my host from fantastico, but whenever I log into my blog, it is through com. How do I tell? WP is not the most helpful when it comes to explaining things, or that's my opinion.

Hi Stephen,
I'm sorry if my video wasn't clear on how to get an API key and set that up. To get that you need to signup for a free account at WordPress.COM. Yes, I know it's weird that you have to go through the .COM version of WordPress, if you're using the .ORG version on your own hosting; but that's the way API process is setup.

Once you have signed up for a free account at WordPress.com, you can find your API key within your User Profile, which you will access here:
http://genesisblogging.com/images/wp-apikey-1.jpg

Then once you are on your User Profile page, you will see your API key at the top of the page, like this (obviously, I've blotted mine out, but where you see the black line, is where your API key would be located):

Just copy that key, then in your WordPress installation for your domain, click Plugins > Akismet Configuration > then paste in your key. Click 'Update Options' and that's it.

Edited to say: if you installed your WordPress through your own web host, such as through Fantastico, then you have the .ORG version. The .ORG version is the only one that works with your own domain and your own hosting.

I just tried to sign in to get my API and I wasn't there so had to register as a new person. I found an API, but will it work with the other account? This is why I left WP. It is so confusing. If so, then it doesnt sound like you set it up through Fantastico, it sounds like you set it up at WordPress.com and then have your domain redirected to that... or something along those lines. I'm confused :)

Stephen: I know it's confusing, but if you installed WordPress through Fantastico on your web host, then you have the .ORG version of WordPress. You only get the API key at the .COM version - that's the only thing you need to do over there, you don't even need to get the blog, only a username at Wordpress.com = because you're just using the .com version to get the API key.

Then you would do all of your blog posting and everything else related to your blog over at http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin (<- which is where you go to log into your .ORG WordPRess install administration dashboard).

So, if you did not install WordPress via Fantastico over at your web host; then you do not have the .ORG version. Once you install the .ORG, then you would access the administration panel by going to http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin (obviously insert your actual domain name in there ;) ).

You're confused!! Imagine where I am! I don't think I originally set up the blog correctly. I did do it through fantastico, but somewhere I dropped the ball! People get to my blog through my site. Now I use Blogger because I never could get WP to do what I wanted. I have some files I am looking at now that were from my original WP download and I see I did not configure things. I have no idea where I am!

Look under your Fantastico icon in your hosting cpanel - if you have WordPress installed, it will indicate that. If you installed it in a folder/directory - then the path to your wp-admin would be something like this: http://yourdomain.com/foldername/wp-admin

I listened to the webinar and there were some great tips and information offered that I plan on attempting to implement on my site. I see now where I have made some mistakes and will start making adjustments based on what I have learned.

Hearing from others with more experience than myself is also a good way to learn and grow. That is what I need and I welcome the challenge.

So frustrated that I was unable to access today's webinar. I tried in both IE and FF, but kept getting "failure" notices. Has this happened to anyone else? This was to be my first webinar with Lynn. I'm so disappointed.

The room does fill up quick, so it's best to log in 10 or 15 minutes early to reserve a spot.

It fills up quick, but sometimes you can get in if others drop out - so it's hard to say. Do try again on Tuesday and perhaps trying logging in 15 minutes early to secure a seat. I'll keep an eye out for you ;)

I have been trying to access my Elite account since you changed it earlier this year but I havnt been able to I have emailed numerous times I had 1 reply I answered but still cant do anything to access i sent you a copy of my receipt again but still no reply I realise there must be a hick up and its not because no one is bothered i expect i have been filtered out but it is frustrating to not be able to enter since july. so if something can be done before my next subscription payment that would be wonderfull as i wouldnt want to pay and still not enter lol

Welcome Damon! Lots of people go through that. You are definitely in the right place to get ideas and support. I have actually found the most support and 'butt kickin' I need in Lynn's elite group. The group has changed my business.

You don't have to build a business on passion. You can always do niche research to see what people are looking for and build an affiliate site around that. I personally prefer to go with 'passion' ideas but you don't have to, to be successful.

Looking forward to seeing what you decide to do. I would say start with one of those domains and take it from start to profit. Then you can work on the rest. Trying to do it all is very overwhelming.

I have niches I am passionate about (teaching Internet Marketing for example, which is a major labor of love) and then I have niches I don't know a lot about but that I monetize. Selling movie merchandise or elvis collectibles, for example.

Fortunately the internet provides plenty of options for learning & research as I go!

Is there a way to listen to archived webinars? I'm at my other job when they are taking place.

Static sites are perfectly fine too! My main site is static and then I added a Wordpress blog on to it. But you can always use Wordpress, the blogging platform as a content management system/static site as well. So many options!
