I was on the fence with which permalink structure to use, but after doing reasearch and reading Lynn's post - http://www.clicknewz.com/783/smart-permalink-structure/ have decided to go with /%post_id%/%postname%.

My question is should I include the .html at the end as well?

/%post_id%/%postname%.html

Thanks in advance for your input.

Peace,

Roey.

Roey,
No, I don't think you need the html at the end. I don't have it on my Wordpress blog but I do have .html on my main site links. It's just how I started out but I don't think it's necessary.

Thanks, Angie. I know its not necessary, but there seems to be pros and cons regarding the use. So, I was hoping to hear what members here in Lynn's forum think. Thanks again for your input.

Peace,

Roey.

Roey, I don't use the .html at the end either. What are the pros and cons? I like this permalink structure. Lynn said that this is what she uses. Let us know if you find out an advantage to using it.

Gail, the best source for explaining the "pros" of using the .html at the end is here:

http://www.seomofo.com/wordpress/seo-friendly-permalinks.html

The "cons" argument is a little more muddled; I didn't save any links. There also seems to be differing opinions on weather or not to include the "/" at the end of permalinks (when not using the .html).

I'm also wondering if changing the permalink structure to an already existing blog would return a 404 error?

Yes, it is my understanding that it would give you that error until you set up a redirect....I think there is a plug in that does it but can't remember what it was called.

Just really no help today:D I'm sure someone will have the answer!

Thanks, Angie.

I was also wondering about that redirect plug-in - will it fix already existing 404 errors or will it only redirect future changes?

Peace,

Roey.

I think this is the plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/redirection/

Seems like a useful plug-in.

I wonder if it can be used to cloak affiliate links.
