Hi,

I'm helping promote a local business with a press release. Please review the attached file to see if it's suitable for release. I'm trying prlog first.

What free release sites are best to submit to? I don't wish to waste time on low quality ones.

Hi Herman:

Please don't take offense, but it just looks like your ordinary, everyday, run-of-the-mill press release. It needs some pop, starting with a compelling headline. Then you need a unique selling proposition. Tell readers what makes your product or service different or unique from your competitors.

I always like to stick with the acronym "FAB": Features, Advantages, Benefits.

Paragraph 1 - Features. For me, this is what sets this items/person/business apart from the others. Why is the opening of this business so unique for the area (best inventory, best location, best experience, etc.).

Paragraph 2 - Advantages. I wrap these inside a quote from the person/owner. If there were two stores side-by-side, what would the owner say is the #1 advantage for coming to his/her store vs. the store next door? It could be anything from lower prices, more staffing, longer hours, etc.

Paragraph 3 - Benefits. Spell out how this is going to benefit the reader. Again, if I choose to shop there, what benefit will I receive? Do I get a personal consultant, a home visit, or a discount if a I spend more than $5,000?

In your mind, become a prospective customer. What are the 3 things that you could read that would draw you to the business?

I had Cindy Brock (see her post above) write a press release for me recently and she did a great job! And for just $5 (she's running a special), what on earth do you have to lose?

Herman, you're still way off track with this thing. Do this: Starting with the headline, I want to know what's in it for me? Where's the benefit to me?

In the body of the press release, I want to know what's in it for me? Again, where's the benefit to me? In addition, I want to know what makes your service better or different than your competitiors.

In other words, give me a compelling reason to care about your service. Because right now, I could care less. And that's not a good place for a press release to be.

I say this with nothing but a sincere desire to help you: WHY ARE YOU STILL WASTING TIME ON THIS????

One of the basic things you need to understand as an entrepreneur is knowing when something is wasting your time. Why are you beating your head against the wall trying to figure this out? Do you want to be a writer who creates press releases? I'm guessing not. How much other business have you lost during the hours you've spent on this?

I have to agree. I was so impressed with the press release Cindy did for me (she sent it before I even had a chance to pay her!) that I ordered $100 worth of articles and press releases for various websites. I can make money creating websites or I can spend my time writing articles and press releases. It's a no-brainer for me.

Cindy, I mean this in the kindest way possible. So, I hope you take it in the spirit with which it is intended. Why are you placing so little value on your time and talent? It gives the impression that you're desperate. That's not good.

Cindy, I no longer accept copywriting clients, because quite frankly, I'm booked solid for a long, long time. But when I was still accepting clients, I charged a minimum of $1 per word for my time and talent. I've earned as much as $7500 for a single sales letter for a Soduku puzzle e-book.

The problem with the special you're running is this: If a client knows that they can purchase your writing services for a measley $5. Why would they pay you more, later on down the road? Indeed, why should they?

Here's what I've learned about pricing my services over the years. If you place a premium on your time and talent, others will as well. And if you don't, others won't either.

This wasn't addressed to me but I will answer as someone who purchased. I personally realize this is a SPECIAL that she's running just for June (like the web design special I'm currently running on my own website).

When I purchase additional services after this month, I will fully expect to pay more. The goal is to get satisfied clients who purchase more in the future.

Wow, $7500 for one sales letter? I've heard that people make that and even more but I personally can't even imagine it. Congrats!

Oh and happy clients make referrals just as I did here on this thread. :o

Thanks, Glennette! The client read one of my articles in SiteProNews, liked my writing style and approached me about writing a sales letter for his e-book. I quoted him a price for what I thought my time and talent were worth. He didn't flinch, and gladly paid my price.

He's referred me to numerous other clients, since then.

Thanks for your interest. I do place a very high value on my time and talents. You mentioned $7,500 for one sales letter: I made $3,500 in 2 hours for formatting a user guide!

Affordable Words has been my baby since 1999. I got sick in 2005 so it went "silent." For the past years, I've been spinning my wheels on a whole bunch of other stuff - most of which amounted to ZIP, ZILCH, ZERO. Two weeks ago, there was a need for me to bring Affordable Words back out into the light of day. I did that targeting a specific group of people with an offer they couldn't refuse.

I have no worries about folks not coming back. I'm confident that Glennette will continue to hire me to help her - no matter the price going foward. If offering a lower price has allowed me to build a connection with as well as help some great folks, then it's a win-win for both of us.

I only intend to help a few people with this offer. Well put Cindy. So sorry to hear of all the things you are going through and have been through. I've been through some similar things myself.

I have to note that I'm in another group with some very talented writers (some of which are on this forum as well) and I've fully intended to hire them but I simply couldn't pass up Cindy's $5 deal. Although it would fall under Scarcity given it's a June special, perhaps the "$5 offer" should be added as #33 on the Conversion Triggers report Lynn recently released. :o

If you don't mind, and if it's okay with Herman, be sure to post the press release, when it's completed. I'd love to see the finished product. Perhaps it can be used it as a teachable moment, for some of the less experienced members.
