View Full Version : Which e-mail client do you use?

Which e-mail client does everyone use? Google? Yahoo? Outlook?

We currently use Verizon web mail and hate it. I want to set up something with more control and that we can have accounts directly for our domain. ie instead of for instance.

"my-email@verizon.net" it would be "my-email@mydomain.com"

I have heard both good and bad about several. Just curious what most folks prefer.

I use Thunderbird. Like it. It does everything I need it to.

Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Thunderbird are my top 3 used choices. Do have Web mail thorough my Domain(nar321(@)robertnelsononline.com) which is usually full of spam by the time I get around to checking it. My attempts at Spam control on this domain either makes the unusably go away or doesn't do anything. Thunderbird collects my Gmail for me and is tied to my ISP via POP3.

Gmail. Nothing else compares, in my opinion.

I have email addresses for every domain I own, and they all feed right into my Gmail account, where they're sorted and filed away according to rules I set up. When I reply to those emails I have the choice of replying via my primary gmail account or the account the mail came through.

I've toyed with the idea of switching to Outlook, because I really like the integrated calendar, tasks, and the fact that it plays nice with OneNote, my new favorite personal organizer. But the one thing that holds me back is that with Gmail, I can access my email from anywhere.

Cindy,

With G mail you can have mail from a specific person or account go into a designated folder in the in box when it comes in?

For instance If you sign up for a news letter it could be automatically sent to its named folder when it comes in as opposed to going into the main inbox for the accoung?

Yes. Gmail calls them labels instead of folders, but the effect is the same. I have lots of mail that comes in, skips the inbox, and is labeled (and color-coded) and filed away for future reading.

you can do the same thing with any email program like outlook ( express) or thunderbird etc.

I use thunderbird it checks all of my different email addresses at all of my different domains. it puts them in their appropriate folders automatically. it has a pretty good spam/junk filtering system as well. ( I don't use it because I want all my spam/junk mail.
yeah, I know, I'm wierd. )

I use Gmail and have all my emails go there, then organize with filters and labels. I like being web based so I can check from anywhere.

I use Outlook. My org skills are old school and I really like being able to nest folders.

I use Gmail and all the things that have been mentioned are great but my favorite feature about Gmail is how it threads the messages. I don't have to look in Inbox and Sent to follow a conversation. It's all right there together and with as many clients as I have, that's a necessity for me now!

That is why I always use the quote feature. Whether in email or posting.

It helps keep the conversation in order.

Another vote for Gmail. I use it for all of my personal mail. I also use Thunderbird Mac OS X for my domain mail, and Thunderbird Windows for work mail.

I've used and support Outlook 2003 at work, but I wanted something more lean. Thunderbird with Lightning works great for me.

Not trying to change anyone. I think email software like project management tools is a highly personal choice. I'd definitely encourage everyone to use what fits their style best.

Just wanted to throw out an FYI for anyone reading later, you can nest labels now

Wow! I'm totally in the minority as I use Yahoo mail, and have for like ten years. lol.

And I have no plans to switch, I love my client as it works for me just fine.

I use G-mail because most of the website nowadays are connected to G-mail, so I don't need to login anymore.

My friend of over 10 online years sometimes doesn't get her emails from me, needless to say that made me switch early on.

I have @domain.com's set up and pushed to gmail. Gmail has more room than anywhere else and I can log in everywhere. Of course now it's even better because my droid is set to automatically go with google :) BONUS lol

I've used gmail for 8 years now and counting. I will never leave gmail.

busymomma,

I understand how you can forward your "domain.com" email to a google or yahoo etc. account. If you reply to an email from the Gmail account doesn't it show to the person that you are sending to as the gmail?

In other words: someone sends you and email to "busymomma@yourdomain.com" and it forwards to your google account.
You login to the google account and reply. Does your recipient see the email as from "yourdomain.com" or the google account?

I know this is a really newbie question but it is one I have been struggling with. Which is why I haven't set up a "mydomain.com" email yet.

Thanks,
Bob

Can't learn if you don't ask ;) Gmail lets you set up 5 other emails and then I can send replies as that email as well. Once you set up your domain email, then go to "settings" in gmail. Click on the "Accounts and Import". You can then set up your domain emails in the "Send Emails As" section. I also have the POP3 set up for certain accounts, it's in that same accounts and import section.

Yup OR you can also tell Gmail to reply using the same address

First setup the Send Mail As address in Accounts and Imports then right under that you'll see this. Choose reply from the same address the message was sent to.

Definitely G mail, no comparison to that, well organize easy filter. Another advantage that almost all clients are using it.

You make sense. I have used it before. I have seen offices suffer with it as well. I think Gmai is great but not yet there with business level stuff.

Email client I actually use? Well ... uh ...um ... You're gonna laugh your butts off... http://www.cashjunction.com/forum-images/roflmao.gif

But I'm STILL using Eudora 7.1 even tho it's not supported anymore. It's taken everything I can throw at it over the years and has held up very well.

I bet even Robert Adams remembers that one too - huh Robert? ;)

I do use GMail a bit and generally like it for what I use it for. It's not likely that it will ever become my MAIN email "client", tho. But I run almost ALL of my personal & biz email thru my main hosting account. Which is why I still like using Eudora.

At least I can call my host if something goes down. Can't do that with the Big G! heh heh

I guess I'm not an all-in-one gadget type of guy after all! :D
