How Do You Disable Antivirus Software

I need to disable my anti-virus programs in order to install Adobe Flash. Someone told me to right click on the icon and then click "Disable". I did this but no "Disable" appeared. Can anyone tell me how to disable - I really do not want to un-install if I can avoid it.

It is going to depend on what antivirus program you are using.

I have Microsoft Essentials as well as Malwarebytes and Spybot.

Sorry, but I don't use any of those.

If nothing else, you should be able to find the programs under your "Processes" in the Task Manager and end the process there.

Other than that, I can't help you with this particular software.

I usually just ignore requests from installation programs to shut down my AV programs and try to install with AV running.

So far I've never had any problems.

Thanks Henrik, but I have tried numerous times and have been unable to install Flash.

I once had an issue with installing Flash on my wife's laptop, but I think the problem with that had to do with browser security settings.

There's a Microsoft post (http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/msestart/thread/201b1ef1-9693-447c-97ed-d1187691f634) that have this to say:

MSE>Settings>Real Time Protection, uncheck "Turn on real time protection".

Give that a try.

A cumbersome workaround could to:

- Download Microsoft Essentials installer
- Download Adobe Flash installer
- Unplug your network connection
- Uninstall Microsoft Essentials
- Install Adobe Flash
- Install Microsoft Essentials
- Re-plug your network connection

Thanks again Henrik. It seems that you were probably right about not needing to disable Essentials. It seems I have another problem with my computer so it is probably back to the shop again. My computer has been in the shop more than in my home the last month!
