View Full Version : Who and How Should I Approach to be a Guest Blogger?

I just read Lynn's excellent post on Clicknewz about guest blogging. My knowledge of web marketing is still not very good but one thing I am good at is writing content. I'd like to give guest-blogging a try, but I have a few questions about it.

Who should I approach about it? I'm assuming someone who runs a blog in an area I know something about. But is that all there is to it?

Also, is there some protocol, or specific approach I should take when asking someone if I can post onto their blog?

Thanks!

Ken

It occurred to me that I could start with my friends here at SSWT. So, in case anyone here is looking for a guest blogger (;)), my areas of expertise are listed here. I've started websites for all except the hypnosis one:

-audio recording/home recording/teaching newbies how to get started without spending any real money

-playing guitar

-singing

-songwriting

-hypnosis

-lean manufacturing/lean operations

-Myers-Briggs Personality-Type Indicator

-The scientific method/causation vs correlation (implications in all walks of life)

-Statistical process control

Just let me know!

Ken,
Guest blogging is really used as a promotion tool. So do you have a website for each of the niches you mentioned above? In a guest blog post, you'll write it and then link to a specific page on your site/blog.

Most times it's best to be familiar with the persons blog you want to do a guest post for and if it's a blog be involved by commenting, etc. before offering to do a guest post.

Just some thoughts!

Another good resource is MyBlogGuest.com, a rapidly growing community for guest blog posting providing an excellent platform for finding and being found by those interested in it.

If you know of someone doing what you're doing, check out their blog for what exactly they're doing and how you could add to it. Choose a topic you believe to be of value to them before approaching them, and being open to reciprocating could help develop a more long-term relationship.

Good luck!

Angie,

Yes, I have sites for all but the hypnosis one. It's on the back-burner though. I feel I have too many sites for the little IM skill I have at the moment:p

Hi Ken,

I think it's fine to approach blogs in your area(s) of expertise, especially if you see that they already have guest posts. Also check about and FAQ pages on blogs to see if they mention guest blogging. When someone approaches me I appreciate it if they include a little detail about a proposed article - a title, brief synopsis, and the reason they think it is a good match for my blog.
