Domain name and Book Author

I am going to blog about learning how to use Photoshop Elements 8. I plan on following a book as I learn and post about each lesson in the book. I have a few questions to start with before I begin.

1. Am I allowed to use the word "Photoshop" in my domain name? Or is it a trademark violation?

2. Would it be a good idea to contact the author of the book to let him know how I am using it? Should I ask for any special permissions?

P.S. Do you have any other suggestions that I should think about as I blog about this topic?

To answer question 1, from the Adobe site:

"Adobe, the Adobe logo, Creative Suite, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop are either registered trademarks or trademarks of Adobe Systems Incorporated in the United States and/or other countries. All other trademarks are the property of their respective owners."

Using a trademark name in a url can help you get ranked for that keyword, but it could also mean that the owner comes after you.

Yes, I am reading thru Super Affiliate Handbook and found the part about trademarks in domains. I have my domain name picked out. No violations and it's a good one.

Does anyone have suggestions on question #2?

I don't think you need to contact the author since it just seems like you're doing a case study (and review) and following along with the teachings from the book. Obviously you'll not want to copy what's in the book and use that but put everything in your own words.

I guess it couldn't hurt to contact the author let them know what your plans are and maybe ask for a copy to give away after your case study.

About the domain name use fotoshop instead of photoshop. Just a thought :)
