I am a newbie and I would be interested to know what you have purchased so far. I tend to concentrate on freebies and keep away from “fancy products”. So far I have bought the following:

Aweber autoreponder
Hostgator
2x domain names
Subscription to a mentor
Market samurai (my biggest investment to date)

As a whole, the start up costs in IM are still relatively low. Would love to hear your stories:)

Our very own Lynn makes the wisest suggestion in this area.

Buy what you need when you need it.

I think most of us have digital products on our hard drive that were bought "in case" we needed them one day.

So starting out you might buy a domain, hosting, auto-responder, and if you cannot write maybe some PLR....

Go at it from that mindset.

It's relatively low, I AGREE! However if we can't earn as much online to pay for those expenses, then that low cost of business would still be a pain in our wallets.

TO make business is quite manageable, but how to learn the business would cost us a lot :-) Right?

it's true, that's should be your basic setup. The goal of internet marketing is to of course outsource as many steps as possible but still keeping that profit margin. So once you get comfortable with what you're doing and having that constant weekly profit, start analyzing your business and see which steps you can outsource to a program or a business to free up your time so you can work/start something else

In this thread we are talking ONLY about Internet Marketing....:confused:

Once I had a plan in place, I started focusing on products that would inexpensively save me the time of doing some of the more mundane tasks I was doing. For example... RSSBot is incredible for the $7 I paid for it. Saved me hours of submitting my RSS feeds all over the place.

Market Samurai is a great investment. Too many people use it for only the keyword research. I use it a lot more for the SEO competition analysis and for looking at competitor's backlinks.

If you can't afford Market Samurai, Traffic Travis is a pretty good free alternative that I would recommend.

Probably the best $57 I spent though was Scrapebox. It really probably is not for someone brand new in internet marketing. Many people think it is just a blog commenter. It can do so much more than that, but the instructions that come with it are awful. I had to really search around online for information to learn from to get the most out of it.

I wouldn't buy Scrapebox if you are brand new, but I would keep it in mind for down the road.

Scrapebox URL checker is FREE. I use it to check if I have obtained backlinks. Very useful.:)

Hi Nickitta

I use Traffic Travis(freebie) and really like this.

How does this work. Does it help you to monitor traffic?

I have purchased a couple twitter tools. Still unsure if they are going to help in any way. Tweetadder and Market me tweet.

Market Samurai sounds good I think I'm going to try it out.

Traffic Travis does keyword research and competitive analysis kind of like Market Samurai. It's free, but is lacking a lot of the options MS has. I generally use Traffic Travis to start with (because it is faster) than narrow things down in MS.

One of the major advantages of internet marketing is how inexpensive it is compared to an offline business. However it is not FREE. Sooner or later you will have to "invest" some money like for buying a domain, hosting, etc..:)

True, it has a price to pay, but at least not as expensive as offline business. Like for example, right now, I offer services regarding article submission, basically several marketers bite that offer. It is an expense to them but they still continue to subscribe to my services because it's important to build online presence and credibility..

When I started, I spent not just money but my time studying the basics of internet marketing till the time I understood how powerful it could be :-)

Hello!

Although Internet Marketing is a lot cheaper compared to any other businesses, I still think that it needs a minimum investment. Are you building a list?:)

I agree with that. This is the best thing for newbies to do - getting internet marketing skills is a must to comprehend how the system works!:D

Hi Nickitta!

Since you concentrate on freebies, are you creating a business that will do the same? For example, will you teach newbies to concentrate on freebies too?

What is your definition of fancy products and why do you steer away from them?

80% of what I've learned online was via a paid product, mastermind group, coaching and forums like this (Elite members).

When you're first starting out, it's good to be cautious about what you buy because you could end up with a lot of stuff that you just don't need. It also depends on what you want to do online as to what service/tools/products you'll need to help you.

I will say having Aweber is a great start. Learning how to write copy is the next. Lynn has tons of 'how to' information not only in this forum but also on her blog at http://www.clicknewz.com

Keep asking questions too... ;)

Hello!

My definition of "fancy products" are products that claim to make someone rich "overnight or in a very short time". You are an elite member so I am sure that you are lot more experienced than me in this domain.

My question was geared towards beginners starting out in IM. I think that any threads from Eric Gaudin is on top of my list as he is an experienced marketer who gives fantastic advice to newbies like me:D

I'm considering Auto Blog System X
Anyone heard of it? using it? Any idea if it's junk?

I have never heard of it....what does it do? Anything that says auto makes me cringe LOL but I honestly don't know anything about it.

Layla D. Smith

it's a report that tells you supposedly how to set up a money making auto blog. what plugins to use, what steps to take for SEO, how to generate content, how to find keywords, how to not get caught for "duplicate content", etc.....supposedly (from one reading), it's good info, but then from another reading, it's just information you can find anywhere else. But, if it puts it into a logical sequence, then it may prove helpful to me....kinda low cost, $37...and, if I pay with paypal/my cc, then I'm sure I can get a refund if it turns out to be junk....that's my issue. Where do I start? What is step one, step two, step three? I need a to-do list that I can follow & mark steps off. I'm not real good without knowing where to focus my efforts. there is just so many steps out there that need to be taken...I get overwhelmed easily & want to get started making money soon....rather than trying to figure out & taking forever to decide what the next step is. Can't someone tell me what should be done & in what order? ugh. :)
And, the time I spend floundering just frustrates me & makes it harder to focus...I have a newborn at home.

Layla,
From what you wrote, I would say pass on that product. We can help you here on the basics OR Lynn's elite mastermind group here is $37 a month and it's more detailed help and would be more what you're looking for. It's definitely a wise investment into starting your business.

Have you read Lynn's blog post on how to make money online for beginners (http://www.clicknewz.com/2343/how-to-make-money-online-for-beginners/)?

Kind of off topic here, but I was having this conversation with my business partner yesterday. If our computers blew up tomorrow, we forgot all our email addresses and passwords, we had no way of proving we held the licenses to any of our software tools, and we could only pick 4 tools to repurchase, which ones would they be? (Basically we were looking at streamlining some of our processes and the training involved with our VA's).

Here was the list we came up with as of today.

The Best Spinner - Love this thing. Big believer in article marketing and this gives an easy way to create more unique content to be submitted to the article directories.

Article Marketing Robot - Hands down the best article submission tool on the market. Auto account creation. Automatic email verfication. Can submit to over 1000 sites.

Sick Profile Builder - Great for quickly and easily building forum profiles with backlinks.

SEO Link Robot - A relatively new kid on the block, but has been vital to us. Think SEnuke, without the $127/month fee.

For the most part, all of these tools are aimed at SEO and traffic building. Nothing else really matters as much.

Our honorable mentions went to Thesis Wordpress theme, Market Samurai (love it, but there are enough free alternatives that we could get by with in a pinch), and Bookmarking Demon.

What would be the 4 tools you are using today you wouldn't want to have to do without?
