In many of the latest comments on my blog at ClickNewz.com, readers shared that some of their biggest challenges are focus and finding the time to get everything done. I struggle with those things myself, and I imagine you do too. It's very common - especially if you run an online business!

I'm currently reading Zen To Done (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1438258488?ie=UTF8&tag=searchcollect-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1438258488) by Leo Babauta, which I'm really enjoying. My friend Andrea pointed out that Leo has a new book out: a Focus Manifesto. There is a free PDF version that you can download and read with no opt-in or other requirements. You'll find it at:

http://focusmanifesto.com

I scanned through it this morning. It's quite good! I'll be printing it off and studying it when I finish the ZTD book. I figured if you are gearing up for the New Year (just around the corner!) like I am, that you'd really like the Focus Manifesto as well.

Enjoy!

Best,
Lynn Terry

p.s. I just registered for the Affiliate Summit event in January (http://www.clicknewz.com/2578/affiliate-marketing-events-january/). If you're planning to attend, let me know - I'd love to meet up with you there!

Thanks, Lynn! I just happened to be trying to get my "FOCUS ON" for today, and came across your gem of a link. I find it very interesting that Leo Babauta is releasing copyright to the public domain. His influence will go far with that kind of viral generosity.
Best,
Mary

Thank you for sharing this Lynn. I have appreciated Leo Babauta's blog. I haven't yet read any of his books. I've downloaded the PDF and look forward to reading it. This subject reminds of the book I just finished, which I found through you, entitled The Power of Full Engagement. It has already had an impact on my patterns for living. Keep those great resources coming!

Another one of my favorites, Della ;)

I was impressed by that as well, Mary! Nice move...

I clicked your link to the freebie then went to amazon to go ahead and order Zen to Done and silly me ordered Focus while I was there *LOL* My memory is way too short. Oh well! I'd rather pay the man for his work anyway. :o)

There are several bonus's if you buy the Focus book, all of which look interesting, can't afford a printed version, so went for the PDF(remember to right click the mouse to "save link as. I didn't the first time and so got no content in the pdf, most places tell you to right click. oh well.:o

Thanks Lynn for this great resource. I am downloading the free copy right now. I have read a book by Tom Ziglar dealing with this very issue. It is really good. I will have to find the title for you.

Hey Glennette,

The premium version you purchased at Amazon has tons more than the free PDF, so I imagine it will be well worth it. Enjoy! ;)

Thanks for the pdf link Lynn - its a great way of checking it out before purchasing for sure - and maybe quite a wise move as Glennette has so beautifully illustrated :) ...

Just got a range of new marker pens ... they come in such great colours these days ... all helps in adding fun to the process - or is that just me lol!

:) ...

PS - having just downloaded the pdf and looked over the upgraded and very interesting premium version (will see how I go with the free vs first) couldn't help but comment on his incredibly kind approach.

I agree. And it's a great price for the premium version if you want more and want to listen to the interviews. You can't beat it!

Lynn, I don't feel bad about it at all. I like his work and don't mind paying for it. Did you know he permits people to steal his content?

Lots of GREAT stuff at his site.

P.S. I didn't realize the difference in versions when I bought mine so I got the kindle version therefore I have the bonus chapters but not the audios and bonus PDFs. Oh well.

The version you bought was only $8.99, right? The other version was more than 3x that, so you still got a good deal ;)

Right it was only $8.99 so no biggie. We went out of town and I didn't have internet there so I'm almost finished with Focus. It's pretty good. Worth the $8.99 not so sure about the $35 version being worth that much. :o

If you're a Google Apps fan then you might want to try GQueues in the Google Apps Market Place, I started with the no cost version and then went to the paid version. I set it up for the GTD Getting Things Done system, but the great thing is you can set it up for just about any system, like the ones you've been talking about.
I wrote about it here (http://www.smalltimemarketer.com/1891/getting-things-done/) and Cameron the programmer is very responsive by email if you have a problem or questions.

Hi Lynn,

I read Zen To Done in June/July 2011 at your recommendation and I loved it. I am so ADD I still have to slap myself to stay on task. I'm working on doing my 3 MIT's every day (that's 3 slaps to start with). Can't wait to skim through the Focus .pdf.

I also finished The E-Myth Revisited and it was also full of jewels. I am a "Super Technician". (Like Wonder Woman!) But she's way cooler than I am. :D

Thanks again,
Cindy Caudill

I thinks sometimes it's not that we don't know how to focus and get our work done, we just forget to!

My simple solution to this problem: I Put a Post-it note on my computer screen to remind me when I forget that says:

FOCUS

Which has done wonders when I start getting side tracked

Just another 2ยข

The good books can teach us how to manage our time well, but book is book, we need to move to manage our time and business. Some people are wondering if a time management software is worthy to try? Well, it depends! If you are a small business, then a simple software is enough. If you take charge of large prject, you need to consider some complicated software.
Anyway, book is book, software is software, you just need to do, do it once, do it right.

Good morning guys. I just stumbled unto this particular posts and it couldn't have come at a better time. Today is one of those days where my mind is willing to keep the business drive and momentum going but my human body can't agree to that. I just pulled a serious all nighter working very hard to pull in a new government contract for my business and I'm feeling the side effects of fatigue right now. I can barely focus at the moment but was very interested to know exactly what kind of suggestions Leo Babauta have to stay focused and productive when you seem to run out of fuel. The obvious answer right now might be to get some rest, but it's Monday and there's so much on the agenda to finish both for my local web design business and my business advice blog.

Lynn you mentioned there's a free PDF version out there. Would that suffice with enough helpful tips or should I go the route of buying the full version?

Hi Wadeinni,

I would start with the free download and decide from there. I also love Leo's blog at http://www.ZenHabits.net

It sounds like you have entirely too much on your plate at the moment. I've been there, so I can empathize. There was a time in my start-up years that I worked 18 hours a day, 7 days a week. I also had a service based business with clients at that time, which is a great business model - but can be taxing.

Do you have a personal assistant or a VA? Outsourcing may be your next best step. A good exercise to try this week is to keep a Time Log. Just a notepad beside your keyboard is easiest, and keep track of everything you do throughout the day (what takes up your time, and how much). It's VERY enlightening. You'll also see things you could easily outsource, and things you obviously DO need to focus on yourself.

Thank you Lynn that's a tip worth trying. Yesterday was a record for me. I stayed up 27 hours straight partly due to the fact I'm relocating my local business and trying to land a huge new contract with the local government. I visited and bookmarked Leo's blog. Very enlightening reading, even experts can learn from other experts. I have a whiteboard but solely for keeping track of new clients. I tried the notepad method and just like tracking expenses in Quickbooks it's amazing to see where time is lost in my daily activities or could be spent doing other things such as taking care of myself, now there's a concept. Thanks a million, I'm glad I stumbled unto clicknews forum. Been quite helpful thus far.:)
