Hi everyone,
My name's Doug, and I've been reading some of the good stuff here and on ClickNewz for several months, and have joined a few of Lynn's free webinars. I'm definitely a newbie, but I have taken at least enough action to get my first minisite up and running. I'm in the struggle to get my rank up to increase my traffic, and I've been focused on building up backlinks.

Speaking of backlinks, does anyone here use Google Webmaster Tools (www.google.com/webmasters/tools)? When I use the link command in Yahoo!, it tells me my site has around 70 inbound links. Google Webmasters Tools, however, tells me I have none?!? I added the Google code to verify my site with them, and even created a sitemap. Does anyone know why it would show no backlinks?

Thanks,
Doug

First, congrats on getting your first site up and started!

Google and Yahoo always have differing opinions on number of inbound links. Yahoo is a lot nicer and counts more than Google does. Yahoo is also faster at counting them from what I've seen. The number of backlinks according to Google is always smaller than what Yahoo will say.

Hey Doug, another new guy here. I use Google webmaser too, but, like you, I'm still trying to figure it out. As far as numbers go, I know Goole gives fewer, but I figure why puff myself up to believe the inflated numbers? I work from the lowest numbers and try to work my way up.

Good luck on your endeavors!
