Hi all. I recently had to import my website into another wordpress install. The thing is that the old database was using the default permalink structure which as many people know, it is not good for helping to rank you with your keywords. So, when I tried to change it, I lost the ability to see those posts so had to change it back. I realize that I will probably have to install a re-direct plugin but when I tried using one I found, it was a lot of work and over my head so I just left things at the default.

So, my question now is, if I leave it at the default for permalinks for those posts(but can make sure going forward that all permalinks are set up right), can I go back to those posts and just use the SEO all in one plugin to help rank those posts and keywords instead or will this not work for helping get ranking after all?

I am open to some suggestions. thanks!

Melanie

I thought if you changed the structure it changed it for all posts, but if you have both set ups then the SEO all in one should help, but you still loose the benefit of the keywords in the url.

I'm under the same impression as Charlotte that if you change the permalink structure it changes all posts. I would find a way to fix it for sure. Wish I could help but I'm definitely not the one to ask techy questions.

yeah, I tried changing the permalinks for even the new posts and it still wouldn't read them; said page could not be found. So, I will just have to use the SEO plugin and try to get as much out of it as possible and hopefully with backlinking and such, I can still rank for those keywords I would like. thanks all!
