Ok so I put together a "Short Report" on the Law of Attraction and a weebly page so it could be downloaded for free (Haven't got the grasp of the opt-in thing yet) and not looking like its getting any traffic at all....how would I get traffic to this site

I can give you the url if you want it don't want this to look like a shameless plug to get traffic...

Give us the link already ;)

Is the page optimized for a specific keyword phrase, and if so is it ranking well for that keyword phrase yet?

Try submitting it to free ebook directories as well. If they aren't yet coming to your page - put it where they ARE looking!

(Lynn)I am not sure how things work with links on here and don't want it to look like I'm just trying to get traffic

I'm having a hard time finding ebook directories that don't require a big ugly button or a link back to them.... I'm finding some, but it's been time consuming. I think today I'm going to look for a *list* of ebook directories that don't require all kinds of crazy just to get included.

Lynn Terry

If you do... I'll buy that list from you :)

I know I'd be so happy to buy one this morning myself so I can cross this off my to do list! I'll definitely share what I find ... when I find it.

I know Jeff Dedrick had a list posted in his viral ebok explosion membership site. I went through most of them and a lot of them ended up being paid sites, only accept certain things, or not accepting anymore, or something else to get in the way and deter you.

I have put my free reports on http://scribd.com (http://scribd.com)and get lots of traffic and downloads(even some favorited), I am actually impressed with the amount of people have been coming since I only loaded them up and then left them there. I haven't been telling anyone they are there or providing my link to them anywhere.

You should try it. You have nothing to lose.

Scribd is the top recommended directory I've heard. It would be great if there were more like it. An opportunity there for sure ;)

Well, speaking of traffic, what do you do when you have done all you know, all you've been told and still no traffic. I know my site(s) need more tweaking, but I have SEO'd them to the best of my ability. One of my problems is that Google has not re-indexed my site for over a month and all the new SEO stuff is not showing up. I asked to be re-indexed and they say they will in the next month or two! Something tells me that the six visits I get a day are not going to bring in the income I need.

I will continue to work on pages and content and tweak the SEO, but I am getting a little frustrated. Suggestions?

Lynn Terry

It does take time, and while you are waiting on indexing and ranking, that is when you shift to work on your social media efforts. Also on posting content to other sites that will get ranked easily & quickly such as EzineArticles.com. So in the interim you do social media, article marketing, networking, etc.

I just knew you were going to say that! Chinese water torture!!!

I blog, I write articles I social media. Guess I'll just keep doing them and try to keep my fingernails from receding to my elbows! :o

I know what you mean StephenT I have followed the instructions and put out content, left comments, backlinked and twittered etc but I do not see sales come in.
May be its a cumulative effect but it is A time consuming and B Frustrating, to see no results for so much work.
I get to thinking the whole thing is a scam but the stories and work ethics of Lynn and the like seem to tell a different story. So I'll just keep plugging away until I find the formula that works for me. Good luck to you as well

Yeah it can get frustrating, but I guess that's what separates the doers from the wishers.

I checked out your site. Interesting. I would think there is a niche there! Did a little barefoot running myself! :D

Lynn Terry
September 10th, 2009, 07:31 PM
If that is the case, it's one of two problems: traffic or sales. You either aren't getting the clicks, or you're getting the clicks but no sales. The good news is, there's a solution either way! :)

Is the site in your signature the one you're referring to?

Great, I'll take a look at both of your sites this weekend then. To both of you: how many unique visitors did you get in the month of August, and how many so far for the month of September?

Make sure it's unique visitors - not visitors or hits.

StephenT
September 10th, 2009, 09:04 PM
I had 62 unique visitors in Aug and 29 so far this month. This is according to Google analytics.

Thanks Lynn.

Okay - just looked at your site. You are linking to it in your signature with the phrase "a common path". This is not a keyword phrase, and none of your web pages are optimized for a specific keyword phrase. Your Yoga page for example is just titled "Yoga" which is very broad (and too competitive).

Read http://www.seofaststart.com (free) and implement everything it teaches. Perfect starting point.

StephenT
September 11th, 2009, 04:32 AM
Yes! I'm up at 4:00 thinking about reconstructing. I read SEOFS and have been working on implementing, but as you see, I have a long way to go. Since I picked A Common Path as my domain, back when I didn't know better, I am now stuck with it. How can I optimize with the name? I know what you are saying about the Yoga page and others. I am working on that. I am also wondering what they really have to do with the point I am trying to make and what I want to offer my visitors.

Lynn Terry

It's early on yet if you want to change your domain name.

That said, the domain itself holds very little weight in the overall ranking criteria. Consider that selfstartersweeklytips.com ranks #1 for "learn internet marketing" and clicknewz.com ranks in the top 10 for "internet marketing blog".

Steve,
I was looking at your website and blog last night. Didn't have a lot of time but the first thing that came to mind was since you're not too far along have you thought about just having a blog. Taking your blogger/blogspot blog and moving it to Wordpress (.org) on your own domain and doing away with the other site. Add everything to the WP blog.

I think that might make it easier on you getting started. Thoughts?

StephenT
September 11th, 2009, 09:13 AM
I do have a WP blog, but am not sure what you are saying. How would I use the blog for revenue purposes other than the adsense I have and Amazon? Since I am not getting the traffic, I'm not sure how I make a da money! I'm willing to listen thought!

Lynn Terry

All I've seen is the html site in your siggy - can you share the rest of the links? You have a wordpress & blogger blog as well?

StephenT
September 11th, 2009, 09:20 AM
I have:
acommonpath.com/blog
http://commonpathsignposts.blogspot.com/
lifechangeforu.com/blog

There is a site @ lifechangeforu.com but I have done next to nothing with it. This is the other site I said I jumped into.

What do you do when you have done all you know, all you've been told and still no traffic?

Steve, I've found article marketing to be an excellent way to build up your traffic and get people to link to you. Plus return to your site over and over ogain. And the results are almost immediate. But there is one huge caveat. You have to be committed to it. While you may get instant gratification, just writing one or two articles isn't going to do anything for you long-term. You have to write a lot of articles consistently over time to reap the big-time rewards. Unfortunately, that requires patience which most marketers don't have. I do.

I agree. You'll also need the articles to lead into specific content on your site, content that has a very clear message and a strong call to action.

I suggest you focus first on getting your website exactly the way you want it - domain name, combining blogs/sites, etc before you invest time & energy into the marketing.

What can I do about domain name? I have had acommonpath for nearly two years. I can't change it now. I do think I need to focus more on the site(s) so that they are not so fragmented!

The other two blogs that I have spent time with

89 visits for August

I answered this in the other thread (http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/members/showthread.php?t=1201) with your site review(s) - but for the sake of anyone reading along here I recommended a 301 Permanent Redirect to his other related domain.

Hi Russell,

What is the source of your traffic. And is that unique visitors, or just visits?

Your sidebars really distract from the main content area. I would recommend that you streamline that a bit so that the eye falls naturally on the page where you most want it to.

The copy at the top right for the opt-in box needs to be short 'n sweet - with a compelling reason to subscribe.

The banner at the top left needs no explanation - so remove the text above it and pull it up to the top of the left column.

Put your focus on the content area - this is where you'll see the highest conversions. See: Best Placement For Affiliate Links & Banners (http://www.clicknewz.com/1574/affiliate-links/)

Hi Lynn,

Sorry must be the time difference I miss seeing your posts to get a timely response back to you.

* 884

* 1.42
Average Pageviews

* 00:01:12

I will put those actions you suggest in place, I am finding the theme I am using to be to squishy as you say.

Always a great idea! Some of my best content has come from asking my readers what they want - and delivering exactly that!
