When I try to insert the 'more' tag in my blog posts it won't work. Is there a plugin I can download to do this? I want to shorten some very long posts - getting a headache trying to find the solution
Thanks!

Have you tried inserting the code instead of using the "more" button on the input window? The code is
<!--more-->
Regina,
I just got on here (the Board) and just saw your post so I don't know if you've found the answer elsewhere or not.
If "not", I suggest that you go to the WP blogging social group forum down below here somewhere and ask it. Or, send Traci Knoppe a PM, if that feature is working now. If it's not, Skype her. I'll bet she can help you.
Mmmmm - what version of WordPress are you using Regina? Is this something that just started - meaning were you able to use the More tag before, and it just started not working? What theme are you using?
I'm getting offline for the evening, but I'll see if I can't help you tomorrow after I get your replies. :)
Regina,
If you're having problems with the more tag, it is better to find out why rather than to use a plugin because it's a core feature of Wordpress. And if that doesn't work, there may be something wrong with the Wordpress installation.
Answering Traci's question would help in determining the cause.
Make sure you are in the HTML view when you insert the <!--more--> tag. I know when you're a new user it's easy to forget to switch.
Hi Regina
Ok - where is it that you're wanting to use the More tag? This theme utilizes essentially the more tag already on the index page by having the boxes and areas where only snippets of posts are shown, you read then click through to read the whole post on the page.
So if you're already on a post page, reading the rest of it from the snippet off the main index page, then this is not an instance where you'd went to use the More tag.
If you think you're posts are too lengthy, I would split them into two parts and have a part 1 and a part 2 and post the second part the next day or the next week or something.
In my opinion, having one blog post that goes one for two pages in one sitting is too long.
Split it up into two blog posts - build the suspense, drama, draw the reader back to your site again. ;)
Did I understand what you were wanting to do correctly? If not, please clarify and I'll try to help you.
Now that makes PERFECT sense to me because that's exactly what it is. It's a post page on the index that leads into the post itself so why would it break again? DUH! (thanks Traci)
It's not one of those post that you schedule part 1 now and part 2 later -- however, I now know exactly what to do with it.
Thanks for letting me know - I thought something was wrong with the template, LOL! :)
