Twitter help
I've been using Twitter for some time now and in the beginning had my acct. settings to auto-follow people who followed me using the SocialOomph program. Now that my following list is greater than follows I'm unable to follow any more people. My question is - is there any easy way to unfollow a large number of people at one time instead of singly pointing and clicking on your list? I changed my settings now because of all the spam but want to clean house. Any suggestions would be great!
TIA,
Phil

Yep, Twitter Karma will allow you to bulk unfollow folks not following you.

You can also use this one: http://friendorfollow.com/

SUPER! You ladies are certainly elite! This will be a great time saver.
Thanks so much,

I am checking out that link, Nicole - thank you.
I really want to increase my following on Twitter. I've been following a lot more people lately, and finding some real cool follows! Now that Google and Bing and licensing the feeds and including updates in search results, I am really seeing the benefits of being more active with my social media growth.
Are there limits as to how many you can follow a day, and are there drawbacks to using automated programs? The last thing I want to do is risk getting my account banned, but doing it manually is taking A LOT of time. I had considered outsourcing, but automation sounds best if there aren't any major risks...

Take a look at http://www.buzzom.com/ , too. They also make a desktop client...

Hi Lynn
Twitter is pretty tight lipped on actual numbers on following limits, etc... because they don't want to give spammers an advantage. Here are Twitter's rules on following. Here is Twitter's rules on automated tweets & account creation. And of course, the general overall Twitter rules.
All that said, I do use SocialOomph to send automated originally written and created tweets each week. Every Monday, I sit down and load up tweets that I have written myself to send out on my various accounts at set times per day. Each tweet is unique and I don't keep re-sending the same tweet over and over.
Then, in between the automated tweets, I get on TweetDeck and interact with followers. The automated is to get something consistently and regularly posting to my Twitter accounts, the interaction is to make it all social. I reply & RT manually and personally. ;)
I do not auto follow, because then I'm auto following spammers and p*rn folks. I'm just not willing to do that.
I have used services like TweetAdder and Hummingbird. I did their trials and at the time, they were ok - but not needed for me. That said, I'm now managing Twitter accounts for clients, and I'm seeing the use of some automation as necessary for me to do all that I need to.
As long as one adheres to Twitter rules, then yes - you can use automated tools without issues with Twitter.

Thank you - appreciate the links & details!

Lynn,
There are some serious shortcuts to adding followers.
The easiest is to go to someone who's your competition/in your same field who is manually following people and just follow their followers/friends. Basically, you steal their list.
Obviously it wouldn't work for me, since I autofollow people back, but when you do find someone who's hand-following, you can quickly run through and follow their folks.
I have other tricks, too, but that's the easiest way to increase your followers quickly - while, most importantly, keeping your followers relevant (not just adding people for the sake of adding people). Of course, the Social Media lessons in www.OutsourceWeekly.com has more tips for you, but I really need to update that badly as things changed really quickly.
Hope it helps!

What about automating your Twitter following? Any suggestions there? I know there are a lot of services out there but which one is good? I know Nicole mentioned what she uses (maybe in a Podcast?) but I didn't feel the need to develop my "following" at the time. With the new live search features popping up I am rethinking that policy and would love to hear what you use to automate your Twitter experience.

Which program is it that you use to auto-follow, Nicole?
-
How do you efficiently organize people you follow..it's hard enough keeping up with a few?
-
TweetDeck. I sort my followers into Groups on TweetDeck, depending on topic, interest, etc...
I also have columns in my TweetDeck where I monitor search phrases/keywords.
-
Thanks Traci..I'll give it s a shot.

I use TweetDeck as well and have columns set up for specific groups.

Hey Cori,
That looks more powerful than what I've been using. You have an aff link for it? :) I'll test it out and see what I think.
Lynn,
I've tried several and most are pretty stinkin' awful. I like Hummingbird the best of the ones that I've used, but, honestly, I think you'd be happier just finding a competitor and clicking "follow" quickly down their follower list. (Or have Angie do it for you so that she follows 50-100/day.) It takes only a few minutes/day and "feels better" than using Hummingbird.
As for autofollowing back those who follow me, I've been using the free version of TweetLater.com which is now renamed to SocialOomph.com I set it up to autofollow people who follow me and meet certain criteria (like their account is older than 7 days, etc) - so I don't follow back spammy accounts. I haven't manually followed anyone back for over a year. It's just done for me.
Hope that helps!

Nice to see that others are still tweeking their social media world. For a minute I was feeling left in the dust!;)

Hey Cori,
Looks like I already had a free account linked to my Twitter ID. I still clicked through your link before I signed in. I'll upgrade to test and hopefully you'll get credit.
How much would you charge to update my settings? And, I'm assuming I need to turn off SocialOomph before you start? :)
Thanks!

I played with it yesterday, and I like how I've got it set up - VERY conservatively.
I would gladly show you my configuration to see if you have suggestions. :)
I'll email you with my login so you can take a look.
Thanks.

(Did you get a commission notice, hopefully?)

Welcome Cori and thank you! I'm also going to use your link - sounds perfect ;)
I may take you up on your offer as well, but would love to send you a 'tip' at least for taking the time. I'll be in touch!

I'm definitely going to record a video about this program. It doesn't have much training/help at all, but the features are uber-cool once you go in and play.
Lots of places to really screw things up, though, so hopefully I can help some peeps by creating some training. ;)

That would be awesome, Nicole!
Saves me from having to blog about it - I can just link to yours :D

Thanks. We see eye to eye on pretty much everything except the purge. It was dumping people that I wanted to keep. (Including friends who haven't followed me back - David_frey, edmundloh, some of my other JV partners.)
The list of people dumped when I prune seems like a much better representation of those that I don't care to follow, considering the prune settings have more flexibility. So, I think I'll keep the purge off and just manually prune several times/day until they allow that to be scheduled.
I'm definitely watching the reciprocity. I've chosen keywords so far that are ones people would use if they talk TO people not just regular keywords - if you catch how I'm finagling that. ;) Do you know if you need quotes or a "+" sign if you use a multi-word phrase?
Thanks for taking a peek!

I'm trying out TweetSpinner. Looks promising! Thanks for the link. :)
