How to find a profitable IM Niche?...Nightmare!!!

Hi:),

There is one thing I have noticed for a long time ago with various forums, ebooks, books, videos, etc.
I have looked over is that how to clearly find and determine what could be a profitable niche. I've heard a few things such as finding something you enjoy, or you really like, not building a project or a ebook before you determine if the market is already there and you get traffic... etc.
I've looked around the internet (and through Amazon) and there are so many resources available and a lot of information that I could buy half of the books and ebooks in the world, and still may not have the answer that I am looking for.

Are there any books/ebooks, etc. that anyone could suggest and that would point me (and other new members) in a direction?

Good question. I feel your pain, IM can be quite the monster. But how about you simplify it down to simple bits? Think like a consumer does.

Why not try the electronics niche. Something that is sort of expensive, and popular. But not too popular that you can't compete.

What sort of electronics are popular in the UK now?

I know in the beginning its hard to find something that just makes sense, and that meets some of the criteria you are looking for. If you are having a hard time coming up with a niche, but want to get started, maybe you should just pick out of a hat, and get going with it. Really the biggest thing is taking action, and following a plan. The first niche you choose may not do that well, but you should be able to learn from it, and apply that knowlege to the next project.

In my experience, yes, you should start out with what you know, and what you like.

Why? Because you might end up working lots of hours for nothing in the beginning, and it's tough to get going, if you're bored by your topic. And then why would you want to do it? If you want to be bored, you can stay in your day job :cool:

But also when you start to get successful, knowing and loving your topic will help you to continue to write about it.

When you've come up with a list of what you know and what you like, sort out everything that is free. If you like playing online games as World of Warcraft, Mafiawars, and Farmville, forget about the two latter. Those are free games, and you want an audience who are used to paying.

You can probably make money with Mafiawars and Farmville, too, but it will take more work from you, so consider whether you find it worth it or not. (These games are just examples.)

Do I speak from experience?

Yes. My most money-making sites are about things I'm passionate about, or at least was at one point.

When you say a profitable I.M. niche - do you mean that it is hard to sell Clickbank and similar stuff to aspiring i.m ers? Or do you mean using the skills of I.M. to sell real goods to real people?

Big difference!

Selling I.M. products is for the experts only imho but selling real goods is MUCH easier and should be the focus for most people.

Perhaps you should try your luck promoting "real" products i.e. Amazon Associates stuff?

When I made the switch to do that from IM as a niche whole I started earning good money.

Start on something today, while you are considering other options too. There's no law against having two sites.

The Google Keyword Tool is a free and easy quick way to compare the popularity and profitability of different niches.

Regrettably, it appears they are currently "upgrading" it, and it seems broken at the moment. Don't you love that?

Anyway, when it works, a great tool. Check it in a few days perhaps.
