You're right. It does depend on a number of variables. You can make a lot more with a very small targeted list than a huge general list. So there are no real standards.

There really is no magic number for any type of list. Your list is what you make of it.
There is no way to answer the question with any amount of accuracy. There are just too many elements involved. Focus on quality over quantity.
