Default WP plugin to allow easy linking to anchors on internal pages

I know I can switch to text mode in the WP editor and manually add both anchor or links to anchors, but it kinda defeats the purpose of a CMS - if I just needed a plain HTML page I would just have used a regular HTML editor.

From the standard WP editor I can select from specific Posts or Pages when adding an internal link, but for some odd reason I'm left without an option to specify an anchor.

I've looked at the Ultimate TinyMCE Editor replacement and while I can add anchors from the menu I lack the ability to link to those anchors. When using the advanced link button from Ultimate TinyMCE I have the option of specifying an anchor, but I can no longer pick the URL from a list or drop-down.

Using one of the SEO plugins that automatically turns specific words into URL's to specific Post or Pages is not an option as I would like control of when I link.

The solution (plugin) I'm looking for will 1) allow me to pick a Page or Post from a list, and then subsequently let me select from anchors found on that Page or Post or 2) Maintain a list of predefined links (including anchors) and extent the editor to allow me to insert one of those links.

Anything using shortcodes to achieve this kind of linking is out of the question as my internal linking structure would depend on a plugin being continually updated to be compliant with whatever new direction WP decides to take.

Have any of you used a WP plugin that would suit my needs?

Interesting question, Henrik. You don't just want to link to a post or page, but to a specific location (anchor) on that post or page - correct? So you would have to have these anchors in place throughout your archives first, yes? And just out of curiosity, what is your objective exactly? I assume this means you have long posts or tutorials and you want to link only to the bit that's of specific interest from a new post or page. That being the case, why not just quote that bit of text and then write the "why" behind your reference? Unless I'm missing your objective, which I'm guessing is the case. ;-)

Yes, I'm aiming to link directly at anchors on existing Pages (not on Posts though)

Originally I was looking for a Glossary type Plugin because I have a site where this would come in handy because of a lot of brand-specific lingo.

Unfortunately all the Plugins I looked at all utilized Custom Post Types and although I could create a glossary page (using a WP Shortcode) all the Plugins seemed to link to the individual Custom Posts.

This meant basically driving my visitors to dead ends.

And the linking, to facilitate rich onMouseOver popups, required wrapping the word in Shortcodes.

The idea of using Shortcodes for something as basic as linking from one page to a specific location on another page seems unnecessary, and the whole thing would depend on the Plugin being functional no matter my version of WP.

I know I can hand-code the links and there's already a good deal of in-content anchor links on the site.

But I would really like to move away from having to refer to separate documentation for my anchors and have it all integrated in the WP Editor.

Without seeing the actual site and process I'm thinking you'd need to have this script written, which should be easy enough to have done through a freelance job board.
