Default Does this style of post work for you?

    Hi everyone,

I'd like to get your feedback on this post http://www.bitesizebschool.com/thebo...s-on-amazon-2/. I'm trying out a new style that integrates images, audio, and video. Does the content and layout work? Do you find it interesting?

    Thanks.

    Hi Brett,
I find those full-width images distracting to the flow of the article. When I encountered the first one, I felt like I was at the end of the article already. It was a bit confusing.

I think if you put your headings in h2 tags, which then were styled in bold and perhaps a larger font, it would make it more readable. As it is, I come across the headings (like "Responsive Web Design Overview For Beginners KDP Promo" and "Career Forward KDP Promo" for instance) and they're confusing because it's not obvious they are headings. I just realized after reading them, noticing that they didn't have punctuation after them, that they were headings.

The graph images are confusing because the first one does not have a legend, so I don't know what the blue and green bars represent in each image. You do include a legend in the second graph image, but the legend text is cut off because the image is larger than the height of the div that the image is in.

When I came across the audio embedded in the post, toward the end, I wasn't sure what it was. It says "Read It To Me" but I didn't really know it was going to read me the post.

To me, the video at the bottom doesn't add a thing, and it takes up a LOT of vertical space.

One other thing I noticed is that you have a "-2" at the end of the URL for this post. That means that you have another post with the same exact title in WordPress. If you want to remedy this, make sure you delete the other original post completely, then you can edit the URL or "slug" for this post to remove that trailing "-2."

    Hope that is helpful.

    Thanks Laura.

Here's what I plan to do next time as improvements:

1.) No more than two large images and more strategically placed
    2.) Making sub headings larger
3.) More top/bottom space within the larger images so the main content displays in wider browsers

For #3, if the browser is too wide, the large images adjust to a scale that the top and bottom are clipped. If you decrease your browser width, you'll see what I mean.

For the audio button, I thought "Read It To Me" was straight forward. Would something better work?

These post will become my podcast. A link to the podcast will eventually replace the audio text.

I've gotten great comments on the videos and don't have any planes to change them. If you watch, that's me working on the post. It provides a great connection/window for my readers to see me working at my desk.

Yes - that is how the "-2" ended up there. I did delete the other post. I'll rename this one. But I'll have to be sure the old link redirects.

    Great critique/feedback.

In order to get rid of the -2 at the end of the URL, you have to permanently delete the old post, it can't just be in the trash. Then you can rename this post.

On those large images of the graphs, the words are cut off at the top and the bottom on my 18" screen, so I cannot read the legend. If I reduce my browser down to about 1176 px then I can see the legend text in that one graph image, but then the top is cut off. I still have to keep reducing the screen for that image to display correctly.

In a smaller browser window, the links to your books, which are to the right of the post, are cut off. On the ipad they are cut off as well and you have a horizontal scroll bar. The larger images are cut off on the iPad as well.

In smaller browser windows, there is a problem with the navigation display. Same on the iPad.

I'm glad you've had great comments on the video at the end. To me, it adds nothing. I didn't realize it was you working on the post. It takes up a great deal of space and to me, could be used for something better but that's just me. The video does not play on the iPad for me.

As for the audio button, I guess Read It To Me makes sense, but I didn't get that it was going to play an audio of the post. What about Listen to This Post? Just thinking out loud

Right - it isn't optimized for devices.

Yeah - "listen to this post" works!

    Thanks.

It's not that it isn't "optimized for devices." There are multiple display issues in both Firefox and Chrome at all browser window widths, and on the iPad, that affect the layout and useability negatively, per my previous post.
