Default Ebooks, podcasts and bears, oh my!

Ok, not that I'm making tons of money so far, but I do have an ebook about ready and some stuff recorded and would like to offer them as downloads, but I don't know how to do that and get paid. Sure I can put them on my site for people to download and then trust them to send me the $$, but. . .I'm not that trusting.

How does one take payment, through Paypal let's say, and then get the customer the goods!

When you set up a PayPal Buy Now Button - which you do through your PayPal account - there are extra options there to put in which page the customer should be redirected to after payment. You put in the link to the next page you want them to go to - whether that is an optin page to receive the download links via email, or the download page.

Then, once the button is created, you put that on your page with the sales copy. A visitor clicks, pays, and gets to the downloads.

Ok, here's another one. I went to paypal to figure out how to get the button and do the download thing for a podcast and it is asking me pricing and so forth and it asks about taxes. Are there state sales taxes on downloaded merchandise? I can't remember ever paying them, but then, I tend not to look at that stuff.

I never charge tax for any of my digital goods/software. Can you leave it at 0%? Our sales tax in Ontario Canada is 7%.

Here, south of the border,(upstate NY) it's 8%, but do you pay it? Are we liable for sales tax on non-physical goods? I guess I could look it up!!!

Not yet. You can leave it at 0 until further notice.

If you're interested in the discussion (it's a LONG one) it starts here and goes through 2 pages of comments: http://www.clicknewz.com/1955/internet-sales-tax-laws/ Of particular interest to you if you're in NY.

It started with the Affiliate Tax but they are looking now at the iTunes Tax (nicknames - meaning taxing digital products).
