    Default Hacked Wordpress Sites

Not sure if this is the right place for this post, although I don't mind paying to have this sorted!

I've taken my eye off the ball somewhat lately while I've been selling on Amazon. The result is my Wordpress sites have pretty much all been hacked. It wouldn't be too much of a problem, except a couple are sites I have set up for third parties and I really don't like letting them down and just closing the sites down, which is what I am inclined to do with all of mine that are not earning or showing potential!

Does anyone in the membership have experience of sorting out this kind of problem on a single addon domain and is prepared to share the solution with me so I can work through all the domains "cleaning them out"?

My hosting is with Hostgator and in the past they have scanned and cleaned out malware etc. for free, but that is a service they no longer offer - they now charge for it! I have a lot of addon domains and a monthly subscription per domain is not a viable option really.

    Any suggestions gratefully received.

    Thanks

    Martin

    Thanks for looking.

Well, I wanted to get to work fixing the essential sites I wanted to keep, so I tried Fiverr. All the rest I have put up for sale on SEDO. The first provider I tried wanted straight away to up his price from $5 to $20. I'd probably have gone for that but before I had time to accept his revised price he cancelled the gig. Anyway, next provider proved to be excellent (so far as I know!) fixed the 3 sites I have given him so far and at the agreed price. We're now discussing a bulk deal to fix more than I had originally planned to keep so maybe I'll persevere with a few more than planned.

He also is very keen on a plugin called wordfence, which seems to be a malware/hacking defence, so fingers crossed tha that works well enough. The alternative is that I may have to opt for a monthly paid service from Hostgator called Sitelock, although at $5 per site, I might be better off as I am and getting them Fiverr fixed when they get hacked!

    Any thoughts welcomed.

    Hi Martin,
I would be careful with letting just anyone clean your sites. Hopefully you gave them their own log in and they are doing manual clean up not using an automated tool (they don't always find the malware and completely remove it). Just something to watch for. I manage WP Security Lock (Regina is a member here), $5 a site is LOW so it just makes me wonder and I don't recommend Host Gator for that many domains. You want each site on a separate cPanel not a shared. One gets hacked they all do.

We charge $497 a site to manually clean and then our most popular package is $247 a month per site to manage. Hopefully you get all your sites cleaned and moved to their own cpanel so this doesn't happen again. Wordfence is a good plugin but I recommend iThemes Security Pro and BackupBuddy.
