One reason that I suggested you see about switching from a reseller's account to a basic hosting account is that you are just starting out. The reseller's account adds one more layer of complexity in an already strange world.

Traci has the right steps for you to setup a hosting account within your reseller's account. You should have received an email from your hosting provider with information on how to access WHM. After that, follow Traci's directions.

I would recommend HostGator. Pick either the "Hatchling" or "Baby" plan, depending on your finances. The benefit of the "Baby" plan is that you can have more than one domain.
