Some themes come with pre-installed navigation links, such as Home or About; even before pages are created. These links are not part of the normal list pages WordPress hook, and have to be manually coded with the proper html code to link to the pages they are designed for.
However, as others have mentioned, if you go ahead and create an About page, that should add it to the navigation automatically - provided there is coding telling it to list pages.
Another option is to open the original copy of the theme on your computer, open the header.php file (assuming you're referring to navigation in the header area, if not - open the file that contains the About coding) and either upload that page again; or just copy/paste in the About coding back into your existing install from within the wp-admin dashboard via the theme editor.
Gee, thanks everyone - sorry for not having replied sooner but have been pretty much away from the computer for several days - have not had time to work on the problem.
I had tried installing another theme on top of the Meadowland theme and re-installing Meadowland but that did not work - got a message saying Meadowland was already installed. Could not find a way to un-install it.
I will try your suggestions - thanks again everyone!
To uninstall the theme, just delete the relevant folder from the wp-content/themes directory and it should dissapear from the appreance panel in wordpress; you can then re-install
Thanks Baggs - I've about decided to just install a different theme - spending too much time on this!
I want to thank everyone for your help and patience. I have to tell you I am 77 years old and very, very tech-challenged. I am also on oxygen 24/7 but am somewhat mobile thanks to a portable 02 system. I sometimes think I should not be trying to start an affiliate program with my limited skills, but I do need to make some money.
