What good are article submitters?

If articles have to be altered for every single article site every time you submit it (to avoid the Google slap), what good are all those article submission services and software packages that submit your article to hundreds of article sites all at once?

Which Google Slap are you referring to?

I don't use automated submitters. I submit my articles manually, or outsource the task. But I know some people do use them and like them. Personally, after trying a couple, I found it took me the same amount of time to do it manually.

Re: Google slap. I keep reading about duplicate content. I get that if you use an article as a post w/o any changes (or visa-versa), that Google will consider it duplicate content and that (I think) isn't cool. But maybe I'm over analyzing or reading crap on other forums again.

But the article thing has me stumped.

If I write an article, and submit it to ezine, can I use the exact same article, without any changes, to submit to another article site?

I've gotten absolutely opposite answers to that question from various sources.

Jeanette, there has been growing discussion that I've read regarding duplicate content. In short, the evil that is duplicate content is not as bad as previously thought. I know this sounds like it's contradicting the need to spin articles, but there's still value in doing them differently.

One reason to make them different is because article directories may check to see if the article is already submitted. That has more to do with them wanting to have UNIQUE content rather than being seen as having duplicate content in the eyes of the search engines. This way they add more value to their visitors. Otherwise, if they had everything that all the other directories had, then they're nothing more than a backlink directory.

I use the same article submission tool as Mark Mason and highly recommend it. But one of the cool things about it is that you can submit your articles semi-automatically, meaning that you click a button and it will take you to the next article directory in the queue (a list that you create) and it will automatically pre-populate the form for submission.

You are then required to "push the button" to make it actually submit. I prefer this method simply because I like to make sure things are in order.

Going to each directory separately and submitting them manually is perfectly fine. But it is the most time consuming activity when submitting your articles especially if you are submitting to many. Having an article submitter would help speed things up.
