Default What are your Silver Bullets?

Are you spinning your wheels? Not really getting any traction in your business? I was thinking the other day about my business and what would be the things I could change that would take me to the next level or better yet change my life.

I think changing a few simple things would make all the difference. I am guilty of having internet ADD and chasing shiny objects. I also have a hard time making decisions about which niche to follow, what blog post to write.. everything is over analyzed.

So my silver bullets or the things that would make a huge difference would be:

    • Make decisions quickly and stick to them

    • Take action on a consistent basis towards the goals that I have set

    • Don't get distracted by every new thing that comes down the pike.

This is not all the things I am working on but, these are the ones that if I could get good at, it would change everything in my business.. (The proverbial "Silver Bullets")

    What's Yours?

This is a GREAT list, Steve.

I work with blinders on. I filter out all incoming emails such as newsletters and marketing material into a searchable folder, and only focus on emails relevant to my sites & business.

Acting fast is another great one. Just do it. Act first, fix later (if necessary).

I also have a mini-task list on my desk at the start of every day with my top 3 priority tasks. My goal is to complete those 3 tasks before I do anything else that day, which really helps my procrastinative nature.

I have a master task list of course, which I prioritize. Then I pluck everything out of there that I can outsource, and do that. Then I start at the top and create my daily "top three". This helps me make consistent progress towards specific goals - instead of just being all over the board and not getting to things that are a priority.

    Default Choose to be effective

One thing made the biggest difference for me...

Choosing to be EFFECTIVE more than efficient!

In other words, I shifted focus from doing things
better and faster - to doing ONLY the things that
    mattered most.

Nice discussion, hope to see some useful tips from
    others.

    All success

This leads me to a topic that I was thinking of starting a thread on; balance.

I am new to this, about two months. I spend twelve to sixteen hours a day sitting in front of my computer trying to either work on my site and do the things I have set goals for, or reading things lik SEOFS, SAH, this forum.

Since my site is only a couple of moths old and I really only started monetizing this last week, I have made zip and am getting fried. The thing is, I don't want to take time off. I like this, but I do sometimes feel like I am spinning my wheels!

I like Steve's list (Great name by the way). I think I do the first two pretty well, but I do get distracted. It isn't by new things, but trying to do too many things all at the same time!

Oh well, time to get moving and stop fooling around here!

Ironically, I am in the process of writing a post at ClickNewz on that topic Stephen. Specifically that phase that almost all of us reach after developing a site, but before getting to the profit point. You're not alone - and I'll keep you posted, let you know when it's published. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it.

Take that second one, "Take action on a consistent basis towards the goals that I have set" and put it at the top of the list.

Now boldface, highlight and underline it.

Maybe add some Flash animation for nostalgia's sake.

The other two are good also, but THAT one...it's a serious biggie!

P.S. The rumors are true. Waiting for profit sucks.

I'm extremely disciplined, so inaction and distractions aren't really issues that I have to contend with. However, I do have a difficult time with relationships because I'm so focused on my business. Some might say, I'm focused to a fault.

I tend to place business ahead of of everything else, and that has hurt my relationship with some really great women over the years. It's something that I'm working on - but I'm not there yet.

Working at home is my greatest blessing - and biggest obstacle. The distraction factor is huge, especially because I don't have a dedicated office. You can usually find me at Panera in a comfy booth. I can concentrate great there, but I've gained 10 pounds thanks to the chocolate brownies and bear claws...

I need some of David's discipline on that front as well!

Another Steve! Cool! We're taking over!

I heading for Panera's tomorrow, just to get out of the house! I shy away from the brownies!
