Default Wal-Mart is shutting down there DRM Server

Message is Copied and Pasted from a article on the Inquistr quote is Cory Docterow(no doubt spelled wrong, writes novels, when will I learn not to trust my 70 yr old mind?)

"Hey suckers! Did you buy DRM music from Wal*Mart instead of downloading MP3s for free from the P2P networks
? Well, they’re repaying your honesty by taking away your music. Unless you go through a bunch of hoops (that you may never find out about, if you’ve changed email addresses or if you’re not a very technical person), your music will no longer be playable after October 9th."

I'm not really clear on what I'm take away from this. Are you saying that Walmart is truly doing something that will affect millions of consumers? Or are you saying that this Cory person is not to be trusted?

The situation was that Wal-Mart sold a whole lot of downloaded music that was all copyright protected by their system. It's a bit like software that does a 'licence check' over the internet every time you run it. Whenever you play this music you bought from Wal-Mart, the copyright check is done. They were going to shut that server down which would have meant that all music purchased from Wal-Mart would no longer be playable. Fortunately, aftr much jumping up and down by customers and commentators they came to their senses and reversed that decision.
