Thread: WP ecommerce plug in

    Default WP ecommerce plug in

I've finally got this thing installed in my WP (don't ask - it was an ugly stupid mistake on my part) and I finally found the off site product link (could they hide it any better?)

I've tried to use it a couple of different ways, but I'm not getting it. The information avialable on line that I can find is pretty geared towards merchants.

The product I was trying to text was on Amazon. I tried it two ways: Selecting the option for image and text, putting all that html into the off site product link. Nothing.

Then I selected just the text link from amazon, put that html into the off site product link, then uploaded the image from my hard drive. Okay, that got me the image, with some wording next to it. But it's pretty messy.

At this point, I'd pay somebody to tutor me (or kill me). Suggestions?

Jeanette - Just curious. Why does NAMS in your signature have 'Marketing' twice?

Also, why does the link go to nichewidget.com instead of NAMS?

Because I"m having a really bad day, Rick. But thanks for pointing it out so I can fix it.

I'm afraid I can't enlighten you, not having used the WP e-Commerce plugin, but, I too would be interested in hearing from someone who has experience with it. My impression was that it's a shopping cart system for taking direct payment for items you sell, thus might not be ideal for affiliate marketing. I don't see how you would transfer a shopping cart from your site to the vendor's. If you simply need to show item descriptions, photos and an affiliate link, why use a plugin?

There's another thread, Wade, that I started where this plug in was suggested by Traci. You just don't use that other stuff.

Well, I just installed the plugin on one of my test blogs, Jeanette. I found the place to put the off-site product link and entered it. I can get the product thumbnail to show up on the product list page, but it doesn't show the affiliate link. I plan to tinker with this more as time permits. If we don't find an expert, maybe we can be the blind leading the blind on this one.

I did find an interesting free WP theme designed for use with the E-Commerce plugin, though. It's called WP-Store. That site, by the way, has oodles of interesting free themes, but as always, exercise caution.
