    Default Adsense Thoughts

It has been suggested to me that I move my adsense block up on my blog so it is above the fold.

Before I do that, I have a question:

    Which would be more effective:

    1. Using the big skyscraper block like I have and just moving it up on the page so it is above the fold

    or

    2. Using a smaller horizontal block that automatically gets inserted right after my signature in each blog post.

    What do you all think?

Eric, it depends on your intentions for the site. If your main income stream is AdSense, I would include a block of AdSense right at the top of the post (a square with text wrapped around it).

If AdSense is only secondary, I'd put it at the end of your post, under your signature, as you suggested.

BUT, I would first customize the ad to look like your site. The white background you have now sticks like a sore thumb on your site. try to use colors that blend in nicely.

    HTH.

It would be helpful to know what your site looks like to be sure, but I agree with moving it up above the fold in most all cases.

I tried the site you had in your signature, but didn't see any skyscraper-sized ads there, only the small one-liner above the post, which is good.

    Mark,

I must have already changed it by the time you went to the site.

Is the one liner ad good or do some people recommend a regular 4 line ad in that position?

    Okay, thanks for confirming.

I think it would pop more if you use the 468x60 version. And it wouldn't hurt to have it also at the bottom of your posts BUT you have to be careful to put it in the right file. I'll clarify.

You may already be aware that you cannot have more than three Adsense ads on a page at any one time. So to comply with their rules, you want to have the ads only show up on your posts and NOT on your home page with some exceptions.

You have a long string of posts on your home page so if you decide to integrate them into the posts, then you're going to need something that will allow you to control how the ads are displayed.

I've used a plugin called Adsense Injection. It's an amazing plugin that lets you decide what sizes to use and where to use them, including whether you want them on your home page, posts, or both.

Probably more than you wanted to know, but I have a habit of over-delivering.

    Mark,

Thanks for the heads up as I was just going to go in and insert the adsense code into each of my posts!

I am going to check out Adsense Injection so thanks.

    Hi Eric...

Did you use the Adsense Injection plug-in on your site. The adsense looks like it's blended in well on your articles. You will have to let us know if your income increased enough to notice a difference.

one way of arranging things is to choose 1 or 2 as the number of posts to show per page.

Part of this is a matter of taste - how you want it to look

right now you have the posts only showing a few lines but if you allow them to show in their entirety 1 or 2 posts would fill the page.

This make it easier to comply with Google's limit of 3 adsense blocks

Quite a few people limit adsense to 1 or 2 forcing Google to prioritise their higher paying ads there.

    All The Best

    ( I'm feeling tired right now - i hope I made sense!!)

Yes I did implement Adsense Injection on the site. I know that it has only been maybe 36 hours but so far the results are promising. The new channel that I added for Injection is getting a 3.82% CTR whereas the other channel was averaging 1.02%.

Not sure if that will hold up over time (my guess is no) but I was happy to see that anyways.
