New FTC Affiliates Guidelines

Does anyone know what new FTC guidelines are in effect, that affiliates must follow, effective today, December 1st?

You know what? I'm gonna vent. (NOT at you.)

I'm honestly getting VERY sick and tired of this.

The cigarette companies got a disclaimer notice so the feds tell them they have to put this on their cigarette's:
Smoking Causes Lung Cancer, Heart Disease, Emphsema, And May Complicate Pregnancy.

Booze companies have to put one of these:

WARNING: The Surgeon General has determined that the consumption of this product, which contains alcohol, during pregnancy can cause mental retardation and other birth defects.

WARNING: Drinking this product, which contains alcohol, impairs your ability to drive a car or operate heavy machinery.

WARNING: This product contains alcohol and is particularly hazard ous in combination with some drugs.

WARNING: The consumption of this product, which contains alcohol, can increase the risk of developing hypertension, liver disease, and cancer

WARNING: Alcohol is a drug which may be addictive.

If we have to have a disclaimer, it would *really* be nice to not have to GUESS what it should say.

I agree with your rant 110% Nicole. If they want us to put a disclaimer, they should absolutely tell us exactly what they want it to say, otherwise what's the point? I could say I did disclaim they just didn't see it and they could say that my wording was incorrect, or too small, or not in the right place, and it's just all ridiculous in my mind.

Totally unrelated rant, I got a coffee at 7-11 over the weekend and noticed that "WARNING: Contents are Hot" was printed on the lid, the cup, and the little sleeve thing. I poured the coffee into the cup myself, added sugar and creamer, I'm pretty sure I knew it was hot and didn't need to be told three times that it was.

But, if that wasn't there and I spilled the coffee on myself I could sue the 7-11 and say that they didn't tell me that my hot coffee was going to be hot. Why are we as a society so completely ridiculous? I know that was slightly off topic, but the whole warning and disclaimer thing is just under my skin I think.

*sighs* I think this is what happens when people refuse to adopt personal ethics, personal responsibility and then expect the companies/govt to do it for them, WHILE getting worked up everytime over things like "govt conspiracy", "government is out to get us", "violation of rights", blah blah blah.

Then the people who have to deal with the impending problems(legal, social, etc.) get the shaft, I guess.

Dan, that only works for products like "how to make money on the internet" etc. How does that help those of us who do AM for hard products or ecommerce sites that contain opinions and/or reviews?
