Thread: Showing Comments on WP Blog

I see a comment on the post, Eating Local at
    http://indoorgardeningblog.com/2009/11/eating-local/

Comments don't show on your home page at
    http://indoorgardeningblog.com/

But if you click on the title of that post, you'll go to the post page which contains the comment.

If you still don't see it, try refreshing your browser or clearing your cache.

Edited to add: And I also recommend you don't require comment approval. Visitors prefer to see their comments asap and Akismet works well.

Yep, as Linda mentioned - your comments are there, but on the home/index page of your site, you need to click the Comments link below the post to view the comments.

Clay: not to disagree with you, but even though I use Akismet, I still moderate all first time commenters, as I have found spammers to be very clever and will avoid using key trigger spam words; but yet, their comments are still meant as spam to get a link back to their site and/or their comments provide gibberish ramblings. I'm wise to those types of spammers and delete their comments.

My face is red with embarrassment over my stupidity! This morning I did click on "Comment" and lo and behold there the comment appeared. Then I read Linda's and Traci's posts and saw that is what I was supposed to do.

Clay, your comment ended up in Spam - how do I move it? Akismet was already activated, but I really do appreciate the comment and would welcome any others!

Also, I would like to have threaded comments (I think). I assume the WP Plug In for threaded comments would be the way to go. Any advice on pros and cons?

In the Spam comments, hover over the comment and click the Approve link.

Or use the wp-spamfree plug-in which does the same thing and there is no need have a key. There are presently three comments on one of the two posts .

Point to remember about plug-ins too many can slow down the loading of your site, They can also pose a potential problem when WordPress is upgraded, so use as few as possible and even then only if it really helps.

I agree with Traci that even with a comment spam plug-in in place you still need to moderate comments. Also if you have activated Web mail for the domain you will need to check that from time to time as spammers love to fill that up with there junk

The other comment did show up when I arrived it was there.

I suggest you activate Akismet on your blog and not require approval of comments. The program will automatically hold spam comments from posting.
Once I said a good comment was spam and felt so bad. Now I just let the akismet manage all my comments and do not report any as spam. Post here is you need help. Just activate the plug in that is already in your blog. go to Wordpress and log in and get your wordpress key. enter it in the akismet where is says enter wordpress key and you are all set.

Thanks Robert - appreciate your comments. Categories are in place and I understand they will show up when there is relevant content on the blog.
