Thread: Twitter help

    Question Twitter help

I've been using Twitter for some time now and in the beginning had my acct. settings to auto-follow people who followed me using the SocialOomph program. Now that my following list is greater than follows I'm unable to follow any more people. My question is - is there any easy way to unfollow a large number of people at one time instead of singly pointing and clicking on your list? I changed my settings now because of all the spam but want to clean house. Any suggestions would be great!
    TIA,
    Phil

Yep, Twitter Karma will allow you to bulk unfollow folks not following you.

I am checking out that link, Nicole - thank you.

I really want to increase my following on Twitter. I've been following a lot more people lately, and finding some real cool follows! Now that Google and Bing and licensing the feeds and including updates in search results, I am really seeing the benefits of being more active with my social media growth.

Are there limits as to how many you can follow a day, and are there drawbacks to using automated programs? The last thing I want to do is risk getting my account banned, but doing it manually is taking A LOT of time. I had considered outsourcing, but automation sounds best if there aren't any major risks...

    Hi Lynn
Twitter is pretty tight lipped on actual numbers on following limits, etc... because they don't want to give spammers an advantage. Here are Twitter's rules on following. Here is Twitter's rules on automated tweets & account creation. And of course, the general overall Twitter rules.

All that said, I do use SocialOomph to send automated originally written and created tweets each week. Every Monday, I sit down and load up tweets that I have written myself to send out on my various accounts at set times per day. Each tweet is unique and I don't keep re-sending the same tweet over and over.

Then, in between the automated tweets, I get on TweetDeck and interact with followers. The automated is to get something consistently and regularly posting to my Twitter accounts, the interaction is to make it all social. I reply & RT manually and personally.

I do not auto follow, because then I'm auto following spammers and p*rn folks. I'm just not willing to do that.

I have used services like TweetAdder and Hummingbird. I did their trials and at the time, they were ok - but not needed for me. That said, I'm now managing Twitter accounts for clients, and I'm seeing the use of some automation as necessary for me to do all that I need to.

As long as one adheres to Twitter rules, then yes - you can use automated tools without issues with Twitter.

    Lynn,

There are some serious shortcuts to adding followers.

The easiest is to go to someone who's your competition/in your same field who is manually following people and just follow their followers/friends. Basically, you steal their list.

Obviously it wouldn't work for me, since I autofollow people back, but when you do find someone who's hand-following, you can quickly run through and follow their folks.

I have other tricks, too, but that's the easiest way to increase your followers quickly - while, most importantly, keeping your followers relevant (not just adding people for the sake of adding people). Of course, the Social Media lessons in www.OutsourceWeekly.com has more tips for you, but I really need to update that badly as things changed really quickly.

    Hope it helps!

What about automating your Twitter following? Any suggestions there? I know there are a lot of services out there but which one is good? I know Nicole mentioned what she uses (maybe in a Podcast?) but I didn't feel the need to develop my "following" at the time. With the new live search features popping up I am rethinking that policy and would love to hear what you use to automate your Twitter experience.
