Thread: How do you let Search engines discover your site?

Default How do you let Search engines discover your site?

How do you let Search engines discover your site? Do you use various techniques like article marketing, backlinks, etc., (as Lynn covered in her articles) in order to tell Google/Yahoo/etc. that your site exists?

'Cos I don't think manual indexing really works.

Diddo above, I just want to add that this kind of marketing when done right can put you on the first page for your targeted keywords that you are marketing your site for. It is fairly easy too it just needs to be consistent and constant.

I've seen mine get indexed quicker by putting links to it then by submitting it.

I've heard that setting up a site map gets a site indexed more quickly and in my experience, that seems to be that case. I don't think it helps your ranking at all, though. The Google Site Map plugin for WordPress makes one automatically. Most marketers seem to agree that in the early months of a website, it's good to update frequently (more than once a week). Google decides the frequency that it scans you site on how often it finds changes.

My new site got indexed in less than 24 hours but I used a bookmarking software for that. Personally I would go for article marketing and social bookmarking. You can also try setting up a wordpress blog with your keyword then put a link somewhere in the middle pointing back to your site.

Hmmm... your replies shed light on the question of: why is my 30dc course talking about articles and web2.0. So so that explains everything!

I agree and saw it work for one of my websites recently.

I guess the most important part for us to understand that if we apply the strategies of seo - we'll see results sooner than later (from one who comes from the school of hard heads )

I use article marketing, social media, blog commenting, and forum posting as ways to get backlinks to my site.

Btw, silly question: I heard that Google ignores most social bookmarking sites these days. So basically, you bookmark your articles not for the backlinks but for the indexing purpose, right?

I'm one of the people who believe that " a link is a link" so I think social bookmarking has it's place.

More important is that some web 2.0 sites "no follow" links so these links do not add to PageRank but it is still a link and folks can still follow it!

    If you follow me...

    :-)
