Default Displaying Privacy & Disclaimer Pages in Wordpress

    I need some Wordpress help.

I want to add privacy and disclaimer pages that have the same theme style as the rest of my WP blog, to keep visual continuity, but I do not want to set it up as an official Page. This would also work well, or in the same vain as, having a landing page with the same theme, yet the ability to have multiple landing pages that are not official WP Pages.

The reason I do not want it to be an official page is that I use Page navigation on my blog sites. The PP and disclaimer pages would show up in my navigation, something I am trying to avoid. I will put a link in the footer for the PP & Disclaimer pages so that Google can see I have them.

Now, can I use my WP theme's CSS to style definition for a single html page(s)? Or is there a 'landing page' type plug-in? I do not want to get too code crazy, but I wanted to see if the community has already discovered a solution.

I am starting my research here since there are so many knowledgeable folks in this community. Aside from community post, I will also post my findings as well, should they be different.

Stimulated by your question, I just discovered and tested an interesting plugin that seems to be just what you need. It's called Exclude Pages. Once installed, you just go to "Edit Page" for the page you don't want on the nav bar. Look on the right hand side (below the "Attributes") and there's a new check box for "Exclude Pages". Uncheck it and the page link no longer appears on the nav bar.

Thanks for bringing up this topic. I'm sure I'll need that one soon enough myself.

    Hey Wade!

Yes, you found the same plug-in as I did.

I first searched WP forum for help. I found the EXCLUDE function that could be added to themes that use the WP_LIST_PAGES function to exclude pages. That sounded to difficult and surely there was a plugin that automated the process. Sure enough, using the 'exclude page' keyphrase, i found the plugin you posted about. Does exactly what I need. And with the latest version of WP, it is so easy to install plug-ins. Just search and install. Love it!

Now, my next part is to get the footer to show the Privacy Policy and Disclaimer pages. It is a quick HREF in the footer, but just like the Exclude Plugin, surely there is a Footer Link plugin!

    I will let you know!

re: the footer. Check your theme settings. Some have a customize the footer field.

I doubt there's a universally usable footer link plugin because footers vary so much from theme to theme, but it's easy enough to insert a link. You'll probably find one or 2 there already and can use them as a guide. It might take some trial and error to position is right.

Just a note: If you look at your footer code and see a very long string of mysterious code, the theme designer stashed hidden code there that could be malicious. I dump such themes immediately.

Jeanette: It turns out the couple of themes I am using do have a way to enter text, but no links. But thanks for the tip. I would not have looked had you not mentioned it.

Wade: I have not had a chance to look to see if there were a universal footer plugin yet. Getting last minute Christmas tasks done. We are supposed to get a huge winter weather blast overnight (Midwest), so it is batten down the hatches. If the ice and snow come tomorrow, as forecast, then I will have some time tomorrow. You are right, finding one will be difficult and inserting the code is easy. I have inserted as HTML in the theme editor. As far as the funky looking code, some of that can be malicious. But some of it is encrypted so you are not able to remove the 'credits' and back link information for the author of the theme. You will see this in FREE themes more often.

Thanks so much for the input!
