Thread: Would you pay for this?

Default Would you pay for this?

    Hi all

I have a site that has been up for almost a year and I have done a little marketing with it but not much since I'm still trying to decide if enough people will pay for the information to make it worth it.

Basically it is a continuity site offering paid lessons all about various aspects of how to search and do research effectively online. It seems like it should work but it also seems like it is proving to be more difficult to market than it should be.

I have the main page http://www.searchnaire.com where people opt in and then they are taken to http://www.searchnaire.com/subscribe.htm where they can view the video and also see what is in the lessons if they subscribe. If they do not then they are sent a 5 lesson ecourse to teach them some basics of successful online searching.

So would you pay for this? and do you think I should continue to market it or not?

I think there's a need (just saw some guy asking about this the other day on Warrior Forum), and I like the idea that the info comes from a librarian. I don't like the landing page, though, and here's why:

First, the title says "Free video reveals the number one secret to effective online research" and below that is a video. I expected *that* to be the free video and was disappointed that I had to sign up for something to get the info.

I'm not a fan of video-only squeeze pages, so see what others have to say about it, but I would ad some text as well, rather than force the visitor to watch the video. What if I was on a mobile device? Or on a work computer? Or just had really slow internet? None of those people would sign up, because they don't know what you're asking if they can't watch the video.

As for the video itself, I found it a little hard to follow. You might consider backing away from the camera a bit, and speaking more slowly.

Next, I did sign up, and I was taken to a GetAResponse (I think) page telling me I had to confirm and blah, blah, blah. No problem there, but what's with all that *other* stuff they want me to sign up for? Are those your products as well? I would lose that stuff if possible.

I see I have a follow up from you in my inbox, so I'll come back and let you know my thoughts on the free stuff you've sent me.

Okay, I've watched the second video and checked out your sales page. I think you would really improve your conversions if you beefed up your sales page.

You need a good strong headline - "Revealed! The Secret Search Techniques Librarians Spend Years Learning" - features and benefits, more benefits, some testimonials, then more benefits and a strong call to action. Maybe move the video lower on the page. Take a look at sales pages for similar products and you'll get the idea.

When you list the lessons, consider telling the reader why she needs to know that particular thing: "Wikipedia and Online Encyclopedias - Learn who to trust and who to avoid, and how to tell the difference"

And why are you limiting sign ups to 200 people? That would make sense if this were a membership program with one-on-one or group coaching, but I don't think it makes sense here. "and because well I can't offer this to everyone" is not a valid argument.

Hope that helps you out. It looks like an interesting program. Good luck with it!

I think you should ask yourself that question. Would you pay for it? If your answer is no, that means you don't believe in the product. And if you don't believe in something, you shouldn't promote it. But if your answer is yes, figure out a way to make it work.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. I'm thinking about changing the capture page to a blog so that I can do more SEO with it and get rid of the problems with it being only a video and I'm sure I will make some changes to the sales page as well and offer the ecourse and video directly in the blog.
