Default Question re: What google ignores in Titles

I'm sure this has been asked and answered before, but I can't find it.

In titles of posts, articles and anchor text, Does google ignore certain words like 'the' 'a' 'an' 'for' 'on' etc?

Example: LTKW = "Best Buy On Widgets" "I Found The Best Buy For Widgets"

--- would google read these as 'best buy widgets' ???

If google does ignore such words, anybody got a list?

Jeanette, I read this at google search basics I hope it helps answer your question but from other things I have read at google they will do it the way they see it best. Real cloudy on this.

Maybe someone else knows for sure but here is what I found

    * Words that are commonly used, like 'the,' 'a,' and 'for,' are usually ignored (these are called stop words). But there are even exceptions to this exception. The search [ the who ] likely refers to the band; the query [ who ] probably refers to the World Health Organization -- Google will not ignore the word 'the' in the first query.
    * Synonyms might replace some words in your original query. (Adding + before a word disables synonyms.)
    * A particular word might not appear on a page in your results if there is sufficient other evidence that the page is relevant. The evidence might come from language analysis that Google has done or many other sources. For example, the query [ overhead view of the bellagio pool ] will give you nice overhead pictures from pages that do not include the word 'overhead.'

thanks Gail. Doncha love how easy google makes it?

But, as a very general rule, I guess the "simple" answer is: the, a, for - are ignored unless they are used as part of a Proper Name like "The Who." Or some other exception that may come up. would you agree?

Jeanette, That is how I see it but what do I know. One time when I read something I think it is one way and I can read it again and see it another way. They play tricks on us to keep us on our toes. Gotta love it. Looking forward to meeting you at NAMS.

thanks, Gail. I'm looking forward to meeting you (as well as many, many others) at NAMS, too.

Ironically, I was out with a group of good friends last night and mentioned that I was flying to Atlanta for what I called "an internet marketing seminar." Some of them looked at me with that 'what stupid thing is she into now' look (I get that a lot and am not offended by it). Others asked questions including:

Can't you just put a website and make money? What's the big deal?
Why do you have to go to Atlanta? Don't they offer something at the community college?
    What's internet marketing?
Why don't you just sell stuff on ebay?

And ALL of these people have read my blog and some visit quite often. Sigh.

I just smile knowingly, quite sure it's worth the trip and worth the work of doing ALL of this if I put the effort into it.
