archives.php doesn't work

I've switched to a new theme. I've created a new page and associated it with archives.php in the Template dropdown menu. When I click the link in my navbar nothing shows up. When I made this page it placed it in a post category. Why? None of my other pages are in categories.

Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this? Thanks.

My theme has both an archives.php and an archive.php file which I tend to mix up. Could it be the same for yours?

Thanks, Linda. The theme didn't have an archives.php. I made one and now it works fine.
