Can anyone be an entrepreneur?

Hey guys,

I don't know about you but when it comes to telling your family & friends about 'What it is you are trying to achieve online' I'm greeted with shaking heads and frowned eyebrows.

The "NONE BELIEVER'S just don't get it.... they simply have no faith in there own abilities.

They think that the 9-5 work ethic is how things should be and any one who deviates from that 'Neanderthal' way of thinking is plain stupid for even trying.

Hi Mike

I've been working full time online since 2000, but a year and a half ago, I heard about a translating job, part time, and I thought: Well, why not?

There were plenty of reasons to "not", in fact, and this job took all my energy and creativity. It drained me. So I decided to stop again after nine months.

Reaction from my uncle: Oh, but you had such a nice job that paid you a nice pay (the lowest pay allowed).

Reaction from my son, of all people: Oh, what a shame. You had a nice job there.

I've written many book. More than 25 that has been published in Denmark, and several of them are translated and sold elsewhere. When people asked me what I was doing, I told them about these books.

Every single one of them thought that I was just translating them.

I guess it's just not their world, and they cannot understand it.

Even now, when people ask what I do for a living, I usually just say: I write. Some get really interested and think they will see my name on the next novel they get a hold of, and then I see their expression, if they ask about what I write... Writing about making money online, the Law of Attraction and stuff - that's not a real job ;-)

Anyway, I prefer my lifestyle to a 9-17 job. Never again!

Hi Brit,

Thanks for your reply, I'm very impressed with you writing so many books 'and 25 published' that is impressive. I love to write and although I'm quite new to writing and not very fast at typing yet I find it so inspirational.

I have written 1 ebook up to now Titled 'mindset for success' and I'm very proud of it probably because it is my FIRST one. I do intend to write more but I don't think I will get to your status any time soon ;-)

Well, those books weren't written in a month, but during several years. I think that in my most prolific year, I wrote six books.

You've done well in writing an ebook. Most people never even get started.

I have a saying:

Everyone should write a book. You learn a lot from doing it.

Which is true, btw. If you want to learn more about a subject, you should teach others about it.

In reply to the question, no, everyone can't be an entrepreneur.

I've been self employed for 30 years, and continually make the mistake of assuming anybody can do it, because it's all I know myself. Wrong!

I think it was Henry Ford who said...

"Whether you think you can, or think you can't, either way you're right."

The people who insist on saying online self employment is impossible are probably right. For them, it probably is impossible.

Nope - I think the numbers are in the 1 in a 100 region. It's not really ability that sets us apart but rather temperament.

Most people just want a nice "safe" 9 to 5 job.

Entrepreneurs want more and will do more to get it. I don't think it's a money issue, it's more one of self determination.

Sometimes it's called freedom but I think it's more of doing things on your own terms.

No, I don't think everyone can be en entrepreneur. If probably requires a certain kind of mindset, either inborn or acquired.

I still have hard time wrapping my mind around the idea that I want to be an "online entrepreneur" (or whatever). Year ago that kind of possibility had not even crossed my mind. I sometimes played with the idea of becoming a brick and mortar business owner, but that would have been impossible because I'm not able to raise that kind of capital.

I'm not anywhere near being able to do this full-time, but luckily/unluckily I'm in the field that poses same kind of requirements: you have much freedom and flexibility, and on the other side is the coin is the fact that you have to be able to create your own structures for working.
