  1. Default Why Do I Keep Losing Links?

I've probably added at least 1000 backlinks to articles and pages on my site, but every week I am losing links. Why is this? Is there anything I can do to keep my articles ranked high on google, or something better?

My site needs help to start profiting. The main things are traffic and conversions...

Backlink your backlinks to make them stick.

Majesticseo.com has recorded just under 1000 backlinks in August for your site so your efforts haven't gone unnoticed:

And Yahoo Site Explorer lists 340 inbound links:

How has the ranking for specific pages for your chosen keywords progressed during August?

The ranking for my keywords haven't changed much at all in the past month or so.

Hmm, thanks for the tip, leo. I may have to try that out....

Are you doing a lot of blog commenting? If so, that can cause your link numbers to fluctuate pretty wildly before settling down.

A lot of blogs run a widget on the sidebar with recent comments posted. So if a spider visits shortly after you have made a comment, it may see your comment on every page of the site causing it to look like you have anything from just a few backlinks to as many as several hundred backlinks from the same site depending on the size of the site.

On the next visit, your comment gets bumped off the "recent comments" list and now you have your 1 backlink on the page where you left the comment.

I have one site recently that I was doing a lot of work for. It went from 200 backlinks to 4200, and now has eased back down to about 2600. I wasn't doing only blog commenting, but I'm sure that is where the lost links came from. No other way I would lose 1600 links in a matter of 7 days.

I haven't been doing much blog commenting. Most of my links are from forum signatures and profiles.

hm backlink watch is not so good, you can either switch to yahoo site explorer, where there is a less chance of losing links, and you can go fro blog comment, this will surely help you.

Mm, how would this work in practice?

Their are several things I do to get my backlinks indexed and try to keep them there.

First, I take the URL of every backlink I create and mash them into an RSS feed. Each feed will have anywhere from 25-100 URL's in it. I use either HostMyRSS or html2rss.com. Either one works great. I know the owner of html2rss.com has it setup so a couple of his own links will appear at the end of your feed, which is fine with me. It's free, why shouldn't he get some promotion for his own products?

In those feeds I also mix in about 10-15 random URL's. I'll toss in stuff like ESPN.com, CNN.com, and Google some random topic and pick the first 5-10 results. I don't want the feeds to be only my stuff.

Then I bookmark those feeds. I generally ping them about once every 3 months.

The other thing that I do is build backlinks to my backlinks. It is kind of the same theory as a linkwheel. You are building up the authority of your backlinks by building links to them. Also, you are helping get them noticed and indexed. Once I build those backlinks, I do the same as above with those URL's.

    Hope that helps.

http://links2rss.com/ is also an option - and will even split your list of pages into multiple feeds in case you're dealing with a lot of links.
