Talking What are some of the Best ways to Turn Visitors Into Subscribers

Hi - I read Lynn's post titled 'Take ONE Site From Start to Profit – Really??'
http://www.clicknewz.com/2399/one-site-start-to-profit/ yesterday and my wheels started churning.

I have a site that generates good traffic and is targeted to the parents/guardians of teenagers Parenting My Teen but after reading Lynn's post, I can see how I may be missing the opportunity to turn my visitors into subscribers.

I see now (after reading her post) that I’ve failed at converting my visitors into subscribers. Does anyone have tips on how to do that more effeciently? Should I be adding a [sign up for our newsletter] link in each post? I also try to link to an affiliate products or my own product on each page of my website and I thought that providing them with too many links was a bad thing. Perhaps I am wrong.

I have a newsletter associated with the website that goes out weekly to a tad over 1,000 subscribers and my website averages 950 views daily.

What are your best tips for turning visitors into subscribers?

    Thanks in Advance

    Hi Aurelia

The best way to convert visitors to subscribers is to offer an incentive. I am not currently doing that on ClickNewz so I'm missing out, but I do have one in progress that I am adding soon. Offer a checklist, a report, a coupon code - whatever is relevant to your market and of most interest to your visitors.

Thanks Lynn! I do offer a Free Raising Successful Teens Report with each new subscriber but I am wondering if I that offer is "catching the eye" of all visitors.

I would put a background color on your subscription area at the top left to draw the eye there - red or orange to match your site theme - and also reword the copy. Don't start out with "subscribe to my list". That's defining your product (list) instead of the benefit (why should I?). Nobody wants to subscribe to a list, but they might want to download a free report to help them raise their teen better.

    Hi, Aurelia:

I once had a vegetarian blog (sold it, last year) and when I wanted to up my subscriber count, what I did was add the infamous pop-up box from Aweber that shows up within seconds of landing on a site. This one simple tactic sent my subscriber count through the roof - I was getting daily subs from the pop-up.

It's easy to set up and there's several options which you can configure as far as when you want it show up to a visitor, how many times to display, and so on.

I think Aweber calls it the Lightbox. Can't remember. But I would recommend it for a quick subcriber increase plan.

Yes, the Lightbox (popup opt-in box) is making a comeback. The Lightbox has a "love/hate" relationship with a lot of marketers and visitors, though. But, with that being said, I have read quite a few reports that fall right in line with chickblogger's statement that they can shoot your subscriber opt-ins through the roof!

If you decide to try out the Lightbox, I would suggest you set up a split-test in Aweber to track your results to see for yourself which opt-in form produces the most subscribers within the shortest period of time.

    hi...

Here is an idea to piggy back off lynn's ideas....offer a free report, a ebook but offer them something they want......something that addresses a problem and a solution ...need ideas ............ask them ?

Shoot off a survey to your list and ask them................... ask them what is their 1 most pressing question then offer that as a free report to all those that participate in the survey........

    Happy fishing.......;>)
