Thread: Ideas for a general blog

Default Ideas for a general blog

    Hello Lynn and All.

First thanks to Lynn for an awesome site, also I love your smile Lynn!

    Now on to my question:
I run a general blog Omguru.com, and I really had be doing nothing except setting up a Facebook page, twitter and had a small emailing list. Then I read the SEO page Lynn recommended and some of the other tips she has. I have 4 sub blogs and after doing some keyword searches I think my best chance for a higher ranking seems to be in the spiritual blog with keywords Vajrayana, [maybe Tao too] and Vajrayana Buddhism [I'm a buddhist]. I also have a health, business and Technology blog [Computers are my main area of professional expertise].

My question is should I be making Buddhism / Vajrayana my niche and just keep the other blogs around, or work all four equally? If so what are some good ideas for having a general blog directory like I have but with the sub-niche of spiritual / Vajrayana Buddhism.

    Thanks

    Thank you Christopher

If you are going to have vastly different topics like that, you want to use subdomains for each - with blog installs on each of those. A blog needs to be topical. And subdomains are treated as domains by the search engines - whereas categories and directories are treated as one site (all on the main domain). This is important for site-theming (ie the search engines knowing what your site is *about*).

Personally I would start with on project and pour your heart and soul into it. Give all your time and energy to it until you have it running as automated as possible, and at max profit potential. You can always work on the other topics when you get the first project to maintenance mode - one at a time until they are all running smooth.

OK, now I am saving that email, I actually got a response from Lynn Terry, my internet marketing hero. I've been listening to IMTW for a while and always liked your commentary.

I really do appreciate your comments, it made me reflect and my reflections resulted in these thoughts:

    1. I probably can't rank in the top 10 of any of the subject matter on Omguru.com, and the one I have a chance Vajrayana Buddhism there are basically are no products that relate that make make it worth for my wile.

    2. Therefore Omguru.com becomes a labor of love for when I have time and I need to develop a completely new site based on a products I have the chance to rank in and that are high dollar value. I would rather sell 10 items a month at $500 each then 100 at $5 I think.

In a way I was feeling disappointment that I think I was WAY off track for the 2 years I put in to omguru.com which basically have resulted in nothing [but I learned some things], but on the other hand facing facts and coming up with a better idea for my about 1 hour a day I have in for this stuff seems like a better idea from a business point of view and then just update omguru.com when I can.

There brings to a new question:
Is there where I could find a list of ideas for blogs/sites that there is room [a niche] for and would relate to high value sales. I think the porch people where brilliant because almost all of there sales are probably high value and it's a very unique niche they probably own now.

Your advice is very valuable and I truly appreciate your time in responding. I am a computer guy and Vajrayana Buddhist so if I can ever return the favor feel free to call on me any time Lynn.

    Sending you Loving Kindness!

    Chris

Makes no sense to me either, Rusty. I'll flag that reply for the moderator - see if the other 6 posts here are anything more than a means to get his unrelated signature link on my forum.

    Hi Chris,

Glad to hear you enjoy IMTW! That's MY "labor of love"

I'm not familiar enough with your topic to know whether or not there is monetary value in it. I would search some of your primary keyword phrases to see if there are any advertisers using Google Adwords (more than 10 unique sites), and if so - who they are and what they sell.

Outside of that, consider these 5 things people spend money on as a start.

Hey Lynn, I read your getting started thread on Self-Starter weekly tips and I just purchased the Super Affiliate Handbook as I figured it was a good place to further my education and I could zero in on a good subject matter for a new site based on a reading of her book. Thanks for the info and I got a lot out of your initial response. Thank you for your time!

Oh Also it's too bad your company is not in New York City where I live [we're getting hammered by snow here!] as you and the crew would be invited over for coffee and cake! And since I am a musician and play in a band some live entertainment.

I think you should consider doing a radio show as when I have heard your voice on IMTW it sounds very professional.

All the best I will keep my study with your wonderful site.

    Thanks for the service!

The Super Affiliate Handbook is *awesome* - a personal favorite! You'll get a lot out of that as Rosalind shows live site examples. You can click through and browse around the sites for a hands-on feel of what she's teaching. Good stuff!

I used to do quite a bit of radio (Internet Radio - back when it was popular), but am in the process of starting a new podcast called "ClickNewz! Live". You can subscribe at the main page (blue box in the right sidebar of clicknewz.com) to make sure you get notification when new episodes start rolling out.

I may be in New York one of these days, and I love to do meet-ups when I travel - so maybe we'll get that chance yet
